Los Angeles (CNN) -- The apparent suspect in a California high school shooting has been caught and handcuffed by police, according to footage aired by CNN affiliate KTLA shortly before noon PT.

"The student in custody was the student involved in this morning's shooting," Robert Alaniz, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Unified School District, told CNN affiliate KCAL/KCBS.

At least three people were shot at the school in Gardena, California, Lt. Steve Prendergast of the Gardena Police Department said Tuesday. The conditions of the victims, who all appear to be students, are unknown.

Alaniz told KCAL/KCBS that only two students were injured in the shooting.
Students were being allowed to leave a classroom after the arrest, according to aerial footage by KTLA.

Alaniz told KCAL/KCBS that a student brought the gun to school in a backpack, and when the student dropped the backpack, the gun discharged and wounded two students.

"That's the indication we've been given by police on the ground that it was an accidental shooting," Alaniz told KCAL/KCBS.
Alaniz said he didn't know if there were metal detectors in the high school.
One victim was shown on KTLA being wheeled on a stretcher to an ambulance at 11:15 a.m. PT.

The shooting occurred at 10:41 a.m. (1:41 p.m. ET). Police were notified by a teacher who called 911, Prendergast said.

Boy, I'm sure glad those Gun Free School Zones are deterring people from shooting at schools.
