Hello CalGuns Hunters. Okay, so I haven't seen a thread for this, so here goes. I know there are rimfire varmint hunters out there...so let's see your varmint hunting creations. Here is my Savage Mark I FVT .22LR with a TruGlo 36x44 scope, mounted using Leupold bases and rings and with my own backyard camouflage job. I call it the "Sand Viper". I love Federal 36gr copper-plated hollow-points for my rimfire hunts.

So, I've shown you what I got, let's see what y'all got. Also, if you want, please specify what you hunt, where (no you don't have to reveal your favorite secret squirrel hunting place...just what county, etc), and what brand & specific bullet type you've had the best luck using.

Happy hunting. --1911ShooterPhil

Here's my CZ 452 in 17HM2 with a Leupold 3-9x33 EFR scope. Using Hornady 17gr v-max bullets I have take countless rabbits and squirrels at distances out to 125yds.

Besides my t/c contenders this is my favorite 1970 10-22, 3x9 Elite, reshaped Fajen stock,920 barrel, 'power custom' internals.

Nice guns guys.

Trapper: I've always been tempted to get a 17HM2. You've used it reliably out to 125yds, with just a 17gr bullet, on Jack Rabbits? Wow! That's neat. I'm curious, what type of wound channels does that leave? And we're talking black-tailed/white-tailed hares, right? Wow. That's an awesome little bullet. I may need to seriously consider picking up one of those.

Here's a few of mine:

Remington 591 - 5mm Rimfire Magnum:

Browning A-Bolt - .22 Magnum:

CZ Model 452 - .17HM2:

Ruger 10/22 - .17HM2 Conversion:

Those are my personal favorites. My wife has a CZ in .17HM2 that has stunning wood on it. That one is a keeper (so is the rifle ;).

It has an Eric Brooks trigger job and will shoot just over an inch at 100yds. With a solid rest head shots on rabbits are very possible out to 125yds. The 17gr V-Max is a frangible bullet so at close range it is more destructive than a .22lr IMHO. I went with the 17HM2 for a couple reasons, it is less likely to ricochet than a 22lr or magnum and costs about $4 less per box than the HMR

OK- Here is my .22 cal 10/22 varmit special. It has a jeweled bolt, T/S .920 barrel, Sweet 22 scope, Voltz Trigger assembly. I have the scope set up for 40gr and shoot Winchester hollow points. I have a savage 17HMR that I have broken down to cover in Duracoat, have not shot it yet though.

That's awesome. I've had great luck with 22 caliber ammo, but now I'm thinking it may be worth it to look into 17 caliber. I love the Aguila SSS 60gr stuff. It's a heavy bullet that you can hear when it smacks into something. Pick some up and try it on a melon or a water-filled milk jug. It's something to see. Also, it's a tumbler, so it makes a deep wound channel, giving instant incapacitation. I also like Remington Sub-Sonics. They're very effective for pest control, as are Aguila Super Colibri fired close in out of a short barrel (I've used them in 18" and 20" barrels safely). Yeah, I love Hornady V-max bullets. I use them shot out of an NEF single-shot .223 rifle on coyote. Very effective bullet. I will look into a 17HM2 conversion for my 10/22. That sounds like the way to go. Thanks Trapper.
