Well after getting my fill of shotguns a long time ago I sold my Mossberg 500A Pursuader model and my FN Tactical Police Shotgun a few years ago. I'd never thought I would ever get a shotgun again but now I broke down and traded for a real rare find.

An HK Model 512. I can't find much info about it but I heard it was made by Franchi for HK back in the 80s and that they were GSG9 overruns. Also called the "Anti-Terrorist Shotgun". No I'm not making that up. That is what I read about. Only about 300 made it into the US and into civilian hands so it would be rare to see one.

Well I got it and now I have to wait my 10 days. I thought I would share some photos of it. These were photos from the person I got it from. I will take more pics once I have it in my possession.

So I will probably be visiting this forum more often now :D

"HK 512 -- An HK 512 semi-auto 12 gauge assault shotgun. The receiver is made by FRANCHI ITALY, it is one of less than 300 in USA. It has factory shot divertor (same as SPAS), mag extension, sling swivels, rifle sights and walnut stocks. HK matte black finish on metal surfaces. I'm told the shotgun was originally made for a Austrian special ops unit. HK did a 1500 gun contract over run and 263 of these were sold to Kessler Police Supply, only known guns in USA."

There was one up on Gunbroker but it looks like it was deleted. I will have to get a closeup when I pick it up in a few weeks.:(

I read somewhere that it was the same as on the SPAS shotguns.

Wow interesting internal balistics. I wonder how th 8 shape affects patterning. Totally cool concept. Reminds me of the AK muzzle brakes I have seen occasionally. Probably hides some flash, though not much, as well as reduces climb. Thanks for fulfilling my curiosity.:)

Just a guess, and you're probably thinking the same: it probably flattens the pattern out a bit, kind of like the "duckbill" shot dispersers the military tried out in Vietnam? That's my guess anyway.

I'd love to see how it patterns out, though.

The HK diverter looks just like the good 'ol "A&W Diverter" from the 1960's. Some googling will possibly get you more details on these, but a quick synopsis:

1) They were originally made in 2 flavors, a "2-to-1" and a "4-to-1" version. This described the amount of out-of-roundness of the pattern.

2) These were used with some success in Vietnam.

3)They were optimized for use with #4B.
