I was tired of my ears getting cold while fishing in the Eastern Sierras so I looked around for a gortex beanie. All I could find was a windstopper from Gore made by Mountain Hardware. (http://www.mountainhardwear.com/Dome-Perignon%E2%84%A2/OM0027,default,pd.html) The price was right at 27.00 so I thought I would give it a try. I wore the beanie for the first time in Yosemite with temps at 24f and a 12mph wind. My head and ears were toasty warm. I also tried the hat while sleeping in my sleeping bag. My head remained toasty warm all night. I am very satisfied with the beanie and I would highly suggest one for those of you who are outdoor enthusiasts.

I wore the hat on a hike the next day with medium snow falling. While the snow would melt on top of the hat my head remained dry. The hike lasted 2 hours. My wifes head was soaked using a normal beanie. I do not think this hat is waterproof but it is at least water resistant.

Polyester Fleece and Wool are the way to go.

Cotton stays at home.

If it is true Gore-tex that beanie should be waterproof AND breathable. Thanks for the review. I'm looking into getting one myself.

I don't think that beanie is made with Gore-Tex.

But while we are talking about Gore-Tex...

IMO, eVent is more breathable than Gore-Tex.

I used to have a vest made with the Gore Windstopper. I rarely got cold while wearing that vest. It was great! Now all I have to do is find that vest again... Unfortunately, I figure I'll have to replace it.

Yeah, keep the head warm---think straight.
