Does anybody out there participate or compete in High Power Sporting Rifle? It is such a small subdivision of High Power Rifle that i cant find much info about it. Im in southern California, so where would be the best place to get started, and how would I get started? Would a 30-06 with a 3-9x40 scope be a good gun to start (its a Howa 1500)? Im only 14, so im fairly ignorant about this.

A Remington 700 would be a good choice. If you haven't shot a high powered rifle before you may want to start with a .243 win.

.243 is a good round. Does not kick any more than a .223, yet with more stopping power. I just got he Remington 700 in a .243 and I love it.

Almost all of the exceptional High power shooters started with a 22LR after all most of the sport is reading the range conditions. At 14, you should join an NRA or shooting club youth group that shoots small bore. Currently, I use an AR 223, that 30/06 you have is going to leave bruises on your shoulder after shooting all day.
