View Full Version : How often do you guys go shooting?

I was just wondering how often you guys go shooting? I just bought 2 10/22s, one for me and one for my 12yr old. Our nearest range is 30 miles away in Vacaville. In the last month when we got his rifle we've been there 3 times. An hour each time at 400 rds. Hoping to go every 2 weeks...and find the outdoorange.

I wish I could get out that often.... more like once a month for me. I always have my 22's with me, and normally I'll bring out one or two of the guns that are more expensive to shoot.

While you're enjoying your 10/22's that much, get some ammo here while it's cheap:

Last year, every 4-6 weeks.

This year, 2-3 times a week so far(bought myself a membership as a birthday present), and I am planning on keeping that up. Almost all of it is .22lr but its still fun.

At my craziest I went to shoot skeet 5 times a week and shoot rifles/pistols a couple times a week also. Now with a couple of kids and a 82 miles round trip for work, once a week is all I can hope for!!! :(

$9 an hour, ouch.

Insight range in Artesia is $15 for the day, or $225 for the year.

Well, I went back-to-back both Saturday and Sunday last week; also had gone trap shooting the week before. Now I need to regenerate my disposable income so I can go again without feeling guilty. How I hate range fees.

I shoot everyday... in my head. But life, kids, wife la la la la al only allow me to shoot 3 or 4 times a year. Cost of ammo is the most limiting factor when divided up among all my guns. I love them all equally so I must feed them the same each time I go. But as of recent I have been looking and buying 22's in configurations that I already have which will greatly lower the cost of shooting so I look forward to seeing how often I go this year.

Since we prefer Blm shoots and it's roughly a 200 mi. round trip we try to make it out once per month.

I try for at least once a month. Sometimes that goes, sometimes not.

Also, 400 rounds an hour? That's hardly enough time to load, is there aiming involved?

I think he meant both rifles, so that sounds about right.....at least for me.

I try to go once a month. Still haven't convinced the wife the membership would be cheaper. Otherwise, I could see doubling or tripling that.

400 rounds an hour is do able.

depends on the gun and and mag. i was able to clear a bulk box of 525 in 1.5 hours with aiming, loading, clearing jams, and changing targets with my M41 and 6 mags. i was loading the mags w/o any tools.

if i have a ruger MK mag and speed loader it would be even faster.

Until recently I lived 20 minutes from my range so went between 2-3 times per week, generally Mon, Wed and Fri. I avoid the range like the plague on weekends (I am retired so weekdays the range is pretty quiet). Now that I have moved I am 120 miles round trip from the range. Moved two weeks ago and have gone 3 times so far. I think I will be down to once per week before long. Sometimes the wind is blowing 20 mph so shooting a .22lr is wasting ammo. Even the centerfire guys have problems as the wind keeps blowing over the target boards. Frustrating after you have driven 60 miles to get there and can't shoot. Doesn't happen that often but when it does I have to reward myself with a Costco hotdog.

I go about 10 times a year. Wish i could go more, but i dont have too many friends who own their own guns (i dont mind them shooting mine but they dont pay for the ammo). I prefer outdoor ranges as i have 3 high powered rifles (AR,SMLE, and M39) and a 28" barrel 870 aside from pistols. The enfield doesnt come out much because ammo is expensive and hard to find. I need to get .303 dies...not to mention 9mm, .45acp, and 223. I also need to get a .22lr like a ruger or marlin so i can shoot on the cheap but im tempted to get a .17hmr so i can get the feel of precision shooting up 200yards and have something to shoot vermin with without spending alot on a rifle/scope combo before i step up to a .308 Rem 700 or something like that.

My local indoor range is maybe 15 miles away and the staff is great. I went 7 times on my 1 month pass. Since then i've been shooting in the backyard with a proper backstop and only at 1-2pm. No more than one colt rimfire mag or 12 out of the 6 shooter. That and playing with high power airguns has satisfied my shooting needs so far in 2011. I have cool neighbors that either aren't around at that time or dont fuss.

When I can afford it I plan on getting a year membership at my local, alternate between rimfire and .40 SW probably would do two times a week.

I took the last year and a half off from work so for the last few months I have been going 3 to 5 times a week a few times twice in one day... I had to get more ammo... I spend all day at the range, usually 2 or 3 saturday or sundays a month. Here's the trick, 2 10/22s (your already there) a 22/45 and a 5.45x39 ar15. I sometimes shoot 1100 rounds in a day of 22lr between the 2 10/22s, and 22/45. I usually shoot 300 to 500 rounds of 5.45x39 during a typical range trip. I know 5.45x39 is kinda off topic, but I compare prices to rimfire when it comes down to bang for your buck.

About once every five weeks. I've only been to the LA Indoor Pistol Range (not friendly about the fees when I bring my own .22LR to use with my 10/22), A Place to Shoot (nice, but a far drive), The Target Range (kind of cramped). Still have to check out the La Puente indoor range and Insight, although I'm taking a friend who's new to shooting to Insight this weekend. Hopefully it warrants several return visits afterwards :)
