Can anyone recomend a recoil pad for a m44, my son is used to shooting
my AR and shot my m44 this weekend and was suprised with the kick.
I would like my wife to shoot the rifle and i know she for sure wont like the
kick.
I would like to put a brake on it but heard the horror stories, any input
would be appreciated.

Thanks James

Check eBay. There's a rubber recoil pad that replaces the metal one. I've also seen slip-on recoil pads. Good luck.

some people have good luck with limb saver brand recoil pad. i think the small size fits the mosin, but double check on that. the mean looking rubber recoil pad on ebay is pretty stiff rubber and is so so on reducing recoil. the dragunov style recoil pad does not work on the mosins. some store say that they do, but i bought one and there was no way to make it fit.

i did hear a rumor that a mas 36 rubber boot fits on a mosin. that would be pretty cool

I use a Past recoil pad http://www.midwayusa.com/Search/#past%20recoil____-_1-2-4_8-16-32 Read the reviews.

Since it goes on me instead of the rifle I can use it with any of my rifles. I would not want to shoot my Mosins without it.

I also use the Past recoil pad.
later, when you have more than one rifle that needs a pad, you will be happy you have one that is on your shoulder instead of on just one stock.

+1 on the Past recoil pad, they work great. I also have a limbsaver for the wife and kids, medium is the size you need for a Mosin stock.

While I use and recommend the Past pad, if for some reason you want a dedicated pad for your Mosin there is this one made specifically for the Mosin. It increases the length of pull 1", which might or might not be desirable.

only problem it doesnt follow the lines of the rifle unless you trim it down. I have one and it looks like garbage, yes it does work, but it sure isnt pretty

I've got this one on my M44 and it is great. Hurts a lot less than my 30-30 lever action now. I can shoot it all day long.

Absolutely agree, I have one for each of my 4 m/n's and it fits 91/30's and 44's very well in my experience. Love them.

This is what I've got for my Mosin... http://www.cabelas.com/stocks-grips-accessories-kick-killer-lace-butt-pad.shtml

It's a high quality piece with a very classic look. I hate seeing a big ugly rubber/plastic pad on an old military rifle, and I think the leather makes it look a little more authentic or period.

+100

I have one on both my 9130 and on my m44, night and day difference and I like very much the increase in pull length. I am 6'3" with long arms. The extra 1.5" makes a big difference. I understand that the rifle stocks were designed short intentionally to accommodate very thick clothing worn against the nasty Russian weather.

I don't think they detract from the look of the gun much at all.

I was at the range last weekend and had an idea, use the Soviet issue ammo pouch as a pad in between the stock and my shoulder......and believe it or not it worked quite well actually! Not sore at all the day after, which wouldn't have been the case without the pouch. Works great in a pinch.

+1 on the limbsaver. The pads really helps to dull the kick. Remember, the Russians had thick winter coats to buffer themselves against the recoil. Hawaiian shirts that we wear to the range just don't cut it.
