More weapon permits likely

....New sheriffs in Sacramento and El Dorado counties say they are preparing to fulfill their campaign pledges to make it easier for residents to obtain concealed weapons permits.

El Dorado County Sheriff John D'Agostini and Sacramento County Sheriff Scott Jones said the attack on U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, which left six dead and 14 others wounded in Arizona, hasn't dissuaded them from fulfilling their campaign promises...."

Ha! McGinness is quoted saying if more people had been armed the AZ shooting tragedy would have been likely minimized. That's rich. It took a lawsuit with his name on it for him to discover the 2A.

Saw this on the news this morning. Glad to hear it. If only we could get more sheriffs like this. off topic, I was listening to the radio on the way to work and some congress woman call 30 round clips "weapons of mass destruction."

It's nice to start seeing some support from the CLEOs....now we need them to start putting pressure on the hold-out Sheriffs and get them all on board.

Check out the tight cluster on Power Inn between Florin and Gerber. Literally next door to an elementary and jr. high school. I'm so thankful PC 626.9 is there to stop this activity.

I'm taking evening classes at Sacramento City College, don't get out of most classes until 10:00 pm. The light rail runs and stops at the back of the parking garage. I've had 2 very brief encounters with shady types in the garage that were not students, but I guess since I'm not a 20 something they thought better of it. There was just another killing at Sutterville Rd and Freeport right by the college. Sacramento is out of control, seems like there's a shooting every other day there.

I wish placer county was pushing for more, but I'm glad to hear McGinness say this.

Placer is so-so, what I am really opposed to is the policy regarding "customized" weapons.

http://www.placer.ca.gov/Departments/Sheriff/Saveatrip/~/media/srf/documents/CCWApplicantInformation3.ashx
The alteration of a weapon approved for a concealed weapons permit is
prohibited. This shall include the addition of equipment, alteration of trigger pull,
trimming of springs, honing or filing of mechanical parts or any similar or related
alteration.
The addition of flashlights, laser sights, star light devices, expanded capacity or
extended magazines, or similar modifications, are prohibited and shall constitute
an alteration. The alteration of a weapon shall be cause for the immediate
revocation of the permit. (Guns with factory installed laser sighting system, at
time of manufacture will not be considered an addition or modification.)

According to USA Today one-day sales of handguns are up sharply across the country, with the $499 Glock semiautomatic model used in the Tucson shootings selling briskly.source (http://ktar.com/category/local-news-articles/20110111/Handgun-sales-surge-following-shooting/)

Exactly how does this work?

If I buy a used Smith 36 that's had a Wolf spring kit installed can I not carry it? Or if I can, and I find out the springs need to be replaced and I return to factory original have I "altered" the gun (altered the altered gun) and will be revoked?

So - no flashlights, no laser, better to blast away unaided with a gun that may or may not go bang?

Is this sort of thing really enforced or is it one of those "don't do anything obvious" to your standard gun?

not sure how much scrutiny they place on trigger jobs and other internal modifications....but as i understand it, they only want you to use guns as they came from the factory.

built in laser = ok
if you added it yourself = no go

Like they can tell if I bought it that way or not.

I made the mistake of reading some of the comments on the SacBee article. With the level of stupidity, knee jerk reactionism, and emotional lawmaking going on its a wonder the chineese haven't steamrolled us yet.

Yeah, who would have thought that swine have wings in Sacramento County.

And no, that is not a disrespectful comment about LEO.
