Found this rifle at my local Big 5 and immediatelly noticied the rare Russian spliced stock. The rifle itself is a run-off-the mill rifle. Has a good bore but still shoots 3 inch groups at 50 yards. However the stock is what I love about it. Where it's spliced on the stock it almost looks like handling wear. The stock itself looks great too!!! I forgot how to upload pictures on this website so I had to use photobucket. Here are the pictures:

P.S. I know I have this gun on a nice couch. I did this in front of my wife. She understands

I have a hunch I know which Big 5 you bought it at. :D

I went in to that Big 5 a while ago and saw the stock. But it had the pink slip on the tag indicating it had been sold... Right then & there I wondered if I would see a post about it on Calguns. :)

Nice snag!

P.s. Nice snag on your wife too (not many 'understand' ;) )

Can someone give me some background info on the significance of stock splicing? This is the first time I'ver heard of it pertaining to a Mosin

I think iraqivetren talks about it some where in one of his videos.

well, basically- you can make a stock two ways- one piece or two. When you make them in two pieces you 'splice' them together (via criss-cross cut & glue). Finland for the most part made two-piece spliced stocks. The Soviets on the other hand for the most part made single-piece stocks... finding a soviet spliced (i.e. two piece) stock is uncommon.
