8/8/2006 - Yesterday's SB 59 amendments truly render the bill useless from any law enforcement perspective and simply introduce problems that the legislature will have to fix later.

Originally, NRA argued that SB 59 will accomplish nothing in cases where the owner could not document the make, model and serial number of the gun. The amendment removes the requirement to report make, model and serial number of the lost/stolen firearm.

This means that law enforcement will be charged with taking reports of lost/stolen firearms and then have to research, through DOJ records, the firearms that owner is known to have owned, to attempt to determine this information.

SB 59 still has to pass the Assembly.

...SB 59 then passed the Assembly. The bill will now return to the Senate for a concurrence vote...
Sorry about that error - SB 59 has not yet passed the Assembly. I edited the initial post to read correctly.
