View Full Version : Buying from non-ffl out of state?

Found some conflicting information so would be nice if someone could help me out.

1. If you buy a handgun from out of state (on the list, of course) does it have to be sent from a FFL or is this something that CA dealers just want anyway?

If 1 isn't law, does anyone know of a dealer in the Bay Area that accepts handguns from out of state non-ffls?

It is not the sender, but the receiving party that must hava a FFL. You can have a private party send the pistol to your FFL without any problems (I've done it quite a few times).

Some FFLs don't like dealing with non-FFLs, so they require the shipping party to be another FFL (working as an agent for the seller).

GunsAmerica.com has a listing of FFLs in your area. Give some of them a call and see:
1) if they do handgun transfers
2) If they accept private part shippers
