I couldn't resist buying something online, so I made a purchase with J&G.
Bought the day before New Years, so I had to wait for the holiday to be over. Monday shipped, Thrusday arrived.
So does this make me an official collector now?

Here she is, a 1929 Izhevsk, Hex receiver.
the furniture is not 2-tone, rather that's a shadow:p.

Edit: Brought my new rifle to the range today to see what she could do. Compared to my other Monsin, this one seems to have a better trigger pull. Less travel before resistance and crisper firing.

5-rounds at 50 yards, 5-rounds at 100 yards.
Here is the Dirty Bird for 100 yards.
8-ring (2-shots) -->9-ring (2-shots)--> Bullseye :D
The two shots at 11:30 were from my other rifle, which are the 4th and 5th shots as it was shooting really high.
In fact both were shooting very high.

Yep you're officially a collector now. Looks like beautiful wood on that Mosin. I am very happy with the 1933 Tula 91/30 I bought from them. The only slight issue I had was that the tool that came with it only had one cutout so I had to buy one with the four cutouts on eBay so I could check the firing pin height.

Congrats, now go buy a bigger safe.

Noice. I'm on my 5th. They're so addictive to buy because they're (relatively) cheap

Very nice! Can you imagine going over to J&G and picking out your own (if they let you)? Like a candy store!

They let you :)

They'll let you choose one out of 3 rifles free of charge, or they'll charge you a hand select fee if you want to go through more. I went through about 20 or so, I think (could be 30, my memories of that event are rather vague. I went through a lot of rifles in those 2.5 hours :D) and picked 2. One is a triple date MO-marked Izhevsk ex-Dragoon in excellent condition, one is a double date MO-marked ex-Dragood Tula in excellent condition, both are not counterbored and with a great bullet test, all numbers match. The bolts correspond to the receivers (i.e. the bolt on the Izzy isn't stamped with a star, for example. It still doesn't mean it's the original bolt, but at least it's not as obvious that it's not :) Stamped matching numbers don't ensure that the parts are original to the rifle, just that they were used in the rifle during the arsenal refurbishing). The people at J&G were very patient with me. And yes, it is like a candy store, just a bit harder to leave.

To the OP: nice FIRST Mosin :p

Ex-Dragoon! Nice one!

I was on 7.62x54r.net trying to find out if it was an Ex-Dragoon or not. How can you tell, just by the date? Or is there a special stamp?

nice mosin, congrats on the C&R. nice chair too, Ikea right?

Ikea! All my furniture is Ikea. When your by yourself, Ikea furniture is easy to transport.

Dont forget to log it into your bound book.

I have a question about that. Already made the entry, but for the date would I use the invoice date or the order date?
I used the invoice date since I think that is when they pulled the rifle and filled out their paperwork with the serial number and all.

For the date I use the date I receive the gun.

Inspired by your Mosin I just placed an order for 4 of them from AIM. J&G is closer, but AIM is $10 cheaper each and they also seem to have a good reputation.

It's getting hard to resist making a trip to J&G. The problem with going there in person is that I'd likely end up breaking the bank and coming home completely broke... but with lots of new goodies.

Very nice Mosin. Of course you know you can not only buy one as they do get lonely and after you get two they have a tendency to multiply in the safe! :D In any event enjoy collecting them as it is fun.

It must have been pretty chilly out there today... my car showed 40 degrees when I went to the post office ;)

Did you shoot at USI?

Well, in 1929 that rifle would've been a dragoon rifle. It now has a 91/30 handguard and sights, so it's a m91/30 ex-dragoon.

OHOD..

That's a nice looking rifle. I was at USI today as well, left about 11am, it was cold. I hope to see you and your new Mosin out there next Friday....

Nice.
I'm learning new stuff about these rifles everyday.
