In the market for a bolt action 22LR. I already own a Marlin 795 for plinking cans. Any thoughts or opinions?

I have the Savage MkII Classic and the CZ 452 Varmint. Kind of a close call I think. The Savage is a larger rifle than the CZ, I think the Accutrigger is better than the 452's out of the box but the 452 can be improved. I'd handle each and just go on what you like, I doubt there's any accuracy or function difference between the two.

Maybe look at the 455 too - get a 22 lr and a 17 Mach II rifle.

Depending on your style....
If you are more classic type guy, go with CZ 455 or 452....
The walnut stock is classic and beautiful....
If you like the modern look, MK II would be better for you.....
I am not huge on the trigger part.... But both guns can be mod into a nicer trigger system....
Hope this helps

I use my 452 with iron and the MKII TR gets the scope. The 452 is super accurate with the stock iron sights.

I cannot speak for CZ but I have a TR and well to be honest I am not happy with it. My Savage is reliably un-reliable. It has too many first shot/cold bore flyers and is inconsistant to say the least. Yes when it is spot on its pretty good, not great but good. I will be ordering a CZ Varmint this week and will be putting my TR up for sale.

if you were going to shoot benchrest and were going to use one of these two, which platform would you choose as a starting point? the TR? or the CZ?

Thanks
Jeff

I would go with the CZ. Mine just shoots stupid accurate. I think it would be easier to adjust the TR trigger, though.

Does the Savage come with an adjustable trigger? Because that's standard on CZ-452s.

The Savage has the Accutrigger. My 452 is an older trainer, not a varmnit...don't recall adjustable trigger, it's been awhile. I installed the Brooks trigger kit to improve the trigger.

I was in the same spot you are in I was looking at both of these Savage & CZ. Turners had a sale & I was going to buy my son a 10-22. And they had a CZ 452 Ultra Lux on sale.
I feel like I could put a bullet anywhere with this. My only regret I wish I would of bought my son one instead of that 10-22

CZ 452 ZKM triggers are adjustable, according to their manual. It's on p.25 on mine, specifically (in the English section).

I have the Savage Mako, and two CZs, the trainer and the varminter;all are great guns but the CZs win hands down on almost all points ( accuracy, reliability, classy looks!)
