Who here is looking forward to ice fishing?
The wife and I drove up to Lake Davis today to do some snow shoeing and let the dog run. I was a little surprised to see several guys fishing. One guy told me it was 6" thick. Not deep enough for me! It's gotta be pretty deep before I'll venture out there!
But it's a good sign. Further up where we usually go the ice gets broken up by the wind and it freezes there last yet it was a good 3-4" deep. I walked out on it a way without hearing any cracking but I knew it's only about knee deep there so no real danger. ;)
Next week or so I'll be out there with my auger, freezing my butt off. Anybody else?

The last time I went ice fishing the Challenger space shuttle exploded (January 28th, 1986). I won't risk it again.

I used to snowmobile on lake Davis and early spring fly fishing just when the ice is coming off. Had alot of fun up there. How's the snow in town.

Used to do a lot of ice drinking ...err fishing when I lived in Maine. Used to do a lot of ice racing with snowmobiles too. Plowing the drag strip was always a trippy experience! One hand on the wheel and one on the door handle. :)

I ice fished when I live in Iowa and also Michigan. Never caught anything more than some panfish and maybe that's why I never got hooked. Of course this was without being in a shack as sitting on a 5 gallon bucket exposed was chilly and became miserable and boring.

2-3" of good ice will support a man they say but I never went out in less than 6".

No cabin here...I bring a folding chair and bundle up. As long as I can keep my toes warm I can stay out all day...or at least until the adult beverages run out. ;)

Looks like we got another 4" last night. Guess I gotta go out there and fire up the snow blower. :(
Lot's of snow up at the lake. That extra thousand feet or so makes for almost double the snow we get in town.
