When did Sig go from W. Germany P226 to Germany P226?

Ive always wondered that myself. I had a 1996 'Made in Germany' model, so Im guessing sometime in the early nineties? The best place to ask is sigforum.com..

Good man. You hit it right on the buzzer. I think the wall actually came down in 1989 correct me if I'm wrong. The official handover of Germany to it's own state from both the US and ex Soviet Union was a few months later, maybe a year. I wanna say Sig changed their stamp from W Germany to Germany in 1990. The gun is built in the same factory by the same people of course, but you have those crazy Sig fanboys who prefer.....some, think a stamp saying W Germany is better than Germany, lol.

I'm almost positive it's in between 1995 & 1996.
95 is marked W. Germany & the 96 I've seen are marked Germany.

IIRC it took them a few years to change the stamp, even though, politically speaking, they were in Germany and West Germany and East Germany no longer existed. My P220 from '94 is stamped W Germany.

It is my understanding that there isn't a changeover date

Even after they changed the stamp from W Germany to Germany, that was just a manufacturing change...they started making slides imprinted with Germany...the factory production line still assembled slides marked W Germany until they used up their supply. If they found more in a back room, they just put them into the regular line.

That is how they recently offered some 228R pistols...they found some old 228 slides that they mated with current 229R frames
