The bottom of an ammo can isn't pefectly flat, there's a hump in the middle to allow the cans to stack neatly.

If you stash shotgun shells in an ammo can (in or out of their packing material) does the shell distort over time? It occurs to me that the plastic case of the shell is a lot softer then the brass case on most of the ammo we store.

oldschool paper shotshells will but new plastic case is alright. ive had shells stored for years and they are fine.

I don't honestly think you can put enough pressure on a paper hulled shotshell stacked inside most regular sized ammo cans to worry about distortion. I have reloaded paper hulled shotshells and stacked them 5 boxes high that I've stored for years that go "bang" when I drag them out and shoot them.

I shot quite a bit of steel reloads and ACTIV steel shot last year that was from the late 80's with no issues whatsoever.
