Hey guys,

I'm looking for cheapest 9mm ammo for target punching. Does it matter what brand, age of ammo I use?

And where can I get the cheapest/best deal on ammo. I would like a case of 1000 if it will be cheaper! Otherwise, I'll buy as needed.

Thanks in advance!

The cheapest is when someone is having a sale with free shipping to boot. The best way to find them is to setup a notification in coupon sites such as fatwallet and buy only when you receive a notification.

Might not be the cheapest, but Cabella's has some deals, sales and usually throws in a FREE nice plastic ammo case.

Just FYI.

The Milpitas and Mountain View Walmarts carry ammo. Not sure if there might be others. Union City used to way back in the day but I haven't set foot in there in many years.

Sometimes in the Marketplace for ammunition there's some good deals. Check out the Commercial Sales on this site too. That's where people post the ammo deals with free shipping from time to time. Right now I think LAX has a good deal on reloads.

"Where can I find the cheapest 9mm" asked the .40cal

Sounds like the start of some gun joke.

Even with tax, Walmart will still be cheaper for 1,000 rounds than ammoman or others. I am referring to the UMC 250 packs. You can get great deals from Cabelas if you are quick to act.

Mega packs at Wal Mart are $51 and change right now.

For target punching, can't beat the Miwall Reloads at 139 + tax for 1k of 115gr FMJ's. Dirty, but goes bang every time, no issues. Got a case of LAX reloads, shot 200 rounds so far, seems hotter and discovered 3 rounds so far with major setback issues, luckily I fill the loose rounds in a reloader's plastic box and noticed the depth difference. Never had setback issues with Miwall.

Be forewarned, I suspect the Cow Palace show next month will be return of the post-obama election like rush for ammo from panic buyers when new buyers hear about the FUD around AB962.

i figure a 1000rds of 9mm FMJ would cost you less than 80$ if you reload your own.

my bad....i'd say closer to 115$.

I'm not sure about that. I just bought 500 bullets and that was around $50 or so.

I use the Miwall reloads, you can find them at gun shows. Think they work out to just under 9 bucks per fifty in the 1k box (might be cheaper don't have last receipt).

$7.75/box looks like the cheapest being reported there.

i figure a 1000rds of 9mm FMJ would cost you less than 80$ if you reload your own.

If you cast your own bullets you would be well under that. If you load lead you could go less than that. If you load plated or FMJ, then you would have to purchase your components in bulk (think 25k at a time) and use your own brass to get close to that price.

i figure a 1000rds of 9mm FMJ would cost you less than 80$ if you reload your own.

Just for the bullets perhaps:

1000 115g FMJ approx $70 to $90
1000 Primers approx $30 to $40
Powder approx $10 to $20
1000 Brass Casings approx $40

So basically for everything, not including the equipment and time, you are looking at $140 to $190 for all the components. If you really want to save money with 9mm, you need to use lead. The price of 1000 pieces of 9mm lead bullets is around $50. It also helps to scrounge the ranges for brass. Then the price per round will drop to around 9 to 10 cents a round. None of the brass I use was purchased. The brass I don't use, I am saving for the zombies. :D

I was wondering this myself.

I did my research and unless they offer free shipping Walmart would be the best place to pick up 9mm ammo.

I got 3 boxes of white box value pack (100) for $72 and change our the door at the Walmart in Mountain View

That would be correct. I know for certain the ones at Story and Monterey Rd don't carry ammo. If I remember right, the one at Gilroy (on route to 152 east) does.

remember to factor in tax for those saying wal-mart is cheapest.

cause palmetto has AE and cci blazer for 9.95/box with flat $12 up to 1,000 rounds. = $10.55/box

wal-mart is 10.47 * tax(8.75% for example) = $11.39/box

of course this is only if you are buying 1k rounds at a time.

Prices have definitely gone up over the years for components. I remember paying $36 for 1000 of Berry's plated 115gr 9mm bullets about 15 years ago. THAT was pretty good. I should have bought more.

I normally buy the 250 count UMC "mega-pack" at Walmart for a little over $51 +tax, haven't had a problem with it yet. Only used for target practice though. Bought the expensive stuff for self-defense.

I just picked up this: http://targetsportsusa.com/p-659-federal-american-eagle-9mm-luger-124-grain-full-metal-jacket-ammunition.aspx

it practically comes out to the same price as Walmart's Federal 115gr after CA taxes. I went with these for the higher grain. Works just as good as the 115gr Federal. As always, you can get ammo cheaper if you go with reloads^

For 9mm range ammo, I shoot the Miwall 125 gr. TMJ reloads. I get these at the Cow Palace Crossroards gun shows. They run $139.00/case. To avoid today's gun show rush, I stocked up at November's gun show.

I have shot many cases of this stuff through various handguns and have never had an issues with it.
