View Full Version : Walmart .22lr Ammo?

Which brand of the bulk 22 ammo that can be found on Walmart's shelves is currently the best? Will be shot out of Marlin and Remington semi auto and pump rifles and a Neos. Looking to do some stocking up before Feb. 1st.

Federal Automatch is what I shoot. It's just a little more, but the consistency is much better. I have a Marlin 795 as my test subject, your mileage may vary.

Whichever shoots and doesnt FTF/FTE ;) I would test each box out. Hell they are cheap enough that u could test them all and see which shot the best and still be under $40 or so dollars (obviously getting the smaller boxes). I've tested a few different brands and found that the Federal bulk works the best for me. Btw im using them in a Sig Mosiquito, S&W 15-22.

I've had the best luck with Federal. Never tried the Automatch, the regular ones function fine in my guns and are plenty accurate for my purposes.

+1 on the regular federal as well; haven't tried the automatch but if all they have is black box it'll be good to go.

Automatch is decent stuff, but I think the Winchester 333 box is a bit better. A lot of shooters find it to be quite accurate. It comes in a box of 333, or 555 but at my local WW the 333 is a tad cheaper....

hmm i like the federal but it doesn't work well in my luger 22 which likes remington but ive always got lots of duds with them so

i have to pick the winchester

I get the 525 box of Fed. Never had a problem shooting it out of my GSG-5. Then again, it's shot over 2000 rounds of Aguila and Centurion with no jams too.

i tried a box of the 333 winchester through my new buckmark, and it HATED it. 20% failure rate, of some kind, is not an exaggeration. it had no issues with blazer or the federal.

that being said, the federal bulk that walmart comes loose in the box, whereas the stuff i had came in a case of 50rd boxes. does anyone know if its the same stuff?

No problems shooting the Federal 550, and its only 19 bucks!

Federal and winchester are both good, but Federal cartridges look cleaner with no scratches or anything. They also burn cleaner. I had some FTE's in my 10/22. I assume it has to do with 36gr weight of the bullets. As far as my bolt-action 22 goes, that baby just loves this ammo and shoots them very accurately.

Anything from Federal.

Federal 550 bulk pack. Feeds well in my 10/22, MKIII, M&P 15-22 with no problems.

the one that works with your gun. ;) Theres no right answer, each gun likes different ammo, find the one it likes and get that one.. store it and it'll work. I stocked on any brand I found...after a few years.. its still working... all of them

I've been getting the 550 count box of Federal and haven't had one problem yet. It's around $20 with tax.

+1 to this. Federal and Winchester both work well for me. Remington has been poor. YMMV, though. Best bet is to try and shoot a box or two before you stock up by 2/1. If you've got to roll the dice, I'd steer clear of Remington.

I like the Federal products carries for .22lr ammo
550 packs
and a load number referred to as 510 which is a box of 50rds priced at $1.47 per 50

Around here, I have the best luck with Winchester 550 bulk.
It's odd how some parts of the country seem to have better luck with different bulk ammo.

+1 Federal Automatch. It seems to burn cleaner and the finish on the brass is smoother (less feed and extract issues).

rgb's run a bit dirty but is what my glock .22lrconversion loves to spit out
