Like the post says, just wondering what you Sig guys think is the best Sig. They make a lot of different models and I'm in the market for a new pistol soon, and want to get some opinions.

Thanks

Here's a thread I can actually speak to from experience. The only Sig models I don't have shooting, as opposed to handling, experience with are the P210, X-6 and the 226 Combat

I've found the alloy framed folded slide 220 to be my favorite for everything from carry, to accuracy to teaching...enough that I actually sent my old duty gun to a custom smith to be made into something special.

I usually recommend the folded slide 226 or 228 for other people as a first Sig, because they are very forgiving to shoot and affordable in 9mm. The 226 is a bit easier to learn with, the 228 a bit easier to carry.

The best all around milled stainless slide model is the 229 in 357 SIG...maybe a 226ST in 9mm

For just blasting a lot of rounds, the 220ST is very soft shooting and very accurate...but it has it's faults and isn't quite as soft or accurate as the X-Five

West German 226 9mm is my favorite of the ones I own. Comfortable as all hell, smooth as butter and dead on balls accurate, can't ask for anything else.

I fondled a 226 Combat last year at SHOT, wouldn't mind picking one up sometime in the future, but there are many other items ahead of it on my want list.

I would say the W. German p220 with the folded slides, in general. Of all the p220 variants, I seem to have a soft spot for the p220 9mm (preferably the American version over Euro) and p220st...

I've owned 3 P226s ranging from 40sw, 357sig, and 9mm. Shot P229 quite a bit, but my favorite has to be SP2022. Its the only Sig I still own. I even sold my USP 40 because my SP2022 performed better (for me). All mentioned are great guns, but I only keep the ones that I will shoot frequently.

I am not a Sig fan, just because I am not a fan of DA/SA not because there is anything wrong with them, but if I were going to buy one it would probably be one of their 1911s. They definately make some really sexy firearms.

At this time, the only SIG I own is the old school P210-2 fitted with factory wood grips and also the .22 conversion unit. Picked up in the mid-80s---shoots like a rifle in either 9mm or .22lr---luckily I purchased several 9mm and .22lr mags way back when---the prices of mags (especially the .22) have gone to insane amounts. If I were limited to only one handgun, this would be it!

It depends upon your hand size.

I love my SIG P6/225. Single stack and I can reach the decocker easily.

I had my first SIG P229 DA, converted to DAO, because I could not reach the decocker one handed. But that heavy trigger pull killed me in USPSA. So, I now have a SIG P229 DAK. Much better.

Need to get the DAO converted to DAK, now, so I'll have a backup that shoots the same.

Both SIG P229 have the Hogue grips. Gentler on my hands.

Huh, guess I'm going to have to be different than everyone else and say my p239 in .40SW. It's nice and simple, small, single stack so it's flat and carries easily and I can still do this with it at 50 feet (which is pretty good for me)

http://www.arcsecond.net/emergencyKit/pics/SigP239_1.jpg

I still have a p226 as well which is also lots of fun, but if I had to pick just one I'd go with the p239.

P220. I have a '90s West German marked example and I'm glad there are so many fans of this flavor Sig. :D I bought it brand new in the mid-90s at the Pomona Gunshow from B&E for $550! Boy have times and prices changed!

Love the size and balance of the P220. The single stack grip feels as good as a 1911 and has the reliability of single stack with .45ACP loaded in it to boot.

I've found the Hogue grips are more comfortable, and make a better fit for large hands, but make it harder to reach the decocker and operate the slide lock without shifting my hand placement. Also, they get a little slippery if I'm working hard and sweating at all. I finally took them off and replaced with the stock grips and I'm much happier with the gun. A little harder on the hands, but, hey, it's a gun!

I've recently gone through a shopping exercise, shooting P220, P226, P228, P229, P239, P250, and PRO2022, in 9mm and .40. Before that I took a friend's P228 9mm through a three-day basic pistol course at Xe (BW) in NC, and was happy with its performance, but wanted a rail for home defense. In the end, my choice was the P229. Good performance, reasonable size, wife is comfortable handling and firing it, and concealable (if/when I ever get out of Cali).
