My grandfather gave me his old Model 39 and i want to put some new grips on it. They are kinda worn out and just don't feel right in my hand. I was wondering if 1911 style grip panels would work on it or where is a good site to purchase them

No 1911 grips will not work on them. Go to S&W forum and you can find some for sale from time to time. They are very similar to model 52 grips.

Try Smith & Wesson. I needed new grips for my late '60s Model 52 and they had them at a decent price.

I just brought a 39-2 home this weekend also. Skimming around the net I did see one 39 with some Uncle Mike's black rubber grips that were not wrap around that I kind of liked, but have not been able to find a pair.

I have some aftermarket wood grips for my S&W model 39. I got them from Kelley Arms:

Pachmayr and Hogue would still make rubber grips for these. Factory walnut panels can be found as mentioned above.

There are any number of makers who still catalog for this platform in everything from plain to very fancy wood.
