I have a chance to buy a blued Ruger Security Six w/ 2.75" barrel.

How are these, other than being tough as nails, and is $350 a good price or a bit high?

Very reliable and will last more than a life time. I've shot 4 and 6 inch ones but never the little one.

Either buy it or tell me where to get it! I still have the SS 6" Security Six I bought in '87 but, I'm not against the idea of getting another one. Really, buy it and if you don't like it, I'll give you $350 for it. So, you'll only be out DROS and transfer fees.

I bought a 4" private party a few months ago and I absolutely love it. It's a tank! I can't speak for the price though -- I paid $350 and got a couple hundred rounds of .38 special with it, but I also think I got a heck of a deal.

I have two 4" Security Six revolvers---one stainless, one blue---some of my favorite guns---buy it and be happy!

BUY IT, many of the snubby Sixes go for $200 more than that on Gunbroker. Besides all snubbies are fun to shoot and carry easy.

Like everybody else said, BUY IT. I have the 6" blued security six and it's ridiculously heavy duty. $350 is very worth it!!!

I have a 2.75" Speed-Six in 9mm. Very smooth action and great looking. Pachmayr and Hogue still make grips for them and speed loaders are still available.

Rugers were built to a higher standard back then—Go for it!

Merry Christmas to Kes and everyone! :seeya:

If it is in good shape, that is not a great price but it is a fair one I think.

What he said.

I picked up a 2 3/4" Stainless Security Six last year. It's sort of neither fish or fowl, it's a little too bulky to conceal (although a good IWB rig should hold it comfortably) and it's a little too short for hunting but I got mine for $325 and I figured it would make a good hiking/woods gun. The blued ones are much prettier (IMHO) but maybe a little less practical as a hiking/woods gun. Besides, I've always wanted a nice Six and I haven't been disappointed. It's fun, handles factory .357 loads comfortably, and it just feels nice.

It would have to be some sort of Ruger factory oddity to get me to pay $350 for a blued security six. I think it's too much.

So you're saying he should save his money and buy a HiPoint or a Kel-Tec? :D

I found a ruger security six with the 2.75 barrel used at a shop about this time last year. Got it for 325 and its been a nice shooting gun. Price is reasonable enough.

I've got one in Stainless Steel with the 2.75" barrel. It is built like a tank and it's still going strong. I bought mine back in the '80's when Ruger stopped production and I got mine on sale for $189.00 at Turner's. It shoots GREAT! Pie plate groups at 10 meters is no problem.

I'm not sure of the price but it's definitely a good revolver. If the Security Six is what you're after, $350.00 might be okay, but, a $150.00 more and you can get the new Ruger Revolvers(GP Series).

Fair price, great gun.
I have had my 2.75" SS model since 1984 and love it. It is my go to gun for HD. Heavy as hell, but if I happen to miss all six shots, I can always beat the intruder with it.

I own a SS Speed Six in .38 Special and feel the exact same way about it. I keep it loaded with +P. The S6 was built as a .357 mag and simply had a different cylinder installed to limit to .38. This is same gun as Security Six except for the fixed sights.
I think $350 is a good price if the gun is excellent. I am told that my S6 would easily fetch over $400.
Good luck.
