View Full Version : 9mm HP ammo in Sacramento

Can anyone help me out and point me in the direction of a few gun shops in the Sacramento area that stock JHP/HP/self defense 9mm ammo? I've only been to a couple places but they both seemed to only carry 9mm in FMJ. I'd really appreciate the help, as I just bought a new pistol and would like to test out a few different brands to determine what self-defense loads it prefers. I'm also looking for some lead-free 9mm ammo (solid copper or similar)... if anyone could give me some tips on where to find some, I'd be very grateful.

Sportsmans warehouse in Rocklin had several brands when I was in there yesterday. I'm sure River City Gun Ex will have some as well.

River City has some Gold Dots and Hydrashocks on sale IIRC.

River City, The Gun Room, and Wild Bills have JHP ammo. Also, if Wild Bills doesn't have it in stock, they'll order it for you. That's how I got my black hills 9mm+P:D

I hate to say this but Wildsports in Orangevale tends to carry it. I picked up my last purchase of HP's there.

Every now and then you can find it at Wal-Mart. I've seen some HP's at the Super Wal-Mart on Greenback/Hazel, as well as the Wal-Mart in Roseville on Lead Hill. GL.

Wild Sports usually has a good selection of Gold Dots.

Why not buy online? www.ammoman.com has tons of HD ammo.

+1. Remington Golden Saber (i believe in 124 gr) and Remington Express 115 gr. high prices for 9mm hp at Big 5... but usually available in small quantity in southern california stores.

why not buy online? I'm in Sacramento until January, and unlike the rest of the state, it's been illegal to buy handgun ammo online and ship it here for some time now (just like we have to sign/show ID/thumbprint for handgun ammo like criminals). IIRC, these laws are going into effect statewide early in 2011 (please correct me if I'm wrong). If someone more knowledgeable in these issues could tell me whether I'll be able to order 7.62x54R to my house in Santa Barbara next year, that'd be great, because otherwise I'm going to need to find a new local source or upgrade my reloading setup. I need to move.

Thanks for all the great suggestions guys, I've called around and Wild Bills seems to have the best selection right now (and they're open on Xmas eve). A Big 5 employee in Santa Barbara told me a few weeks ago that they aren't carrying ANY handgun ammo after the year's end, and even now I've only seen 9mm in FMJs at Big5's up in Norcal anyway. I'll be headin out to Wild Bills today or tomorrow to pick up 4 or 5 boxes: they have Hornady TAP, Magsafe, golden sabers, and a few others. Thanks again for the heads up!
