I have about 10000+ rounds through the factory barrel in my 10/22. Should I get a new barrel soon? I was at the range and it still seems pretty accurate hitting potatoes at 100 yards.

IMHO:

With a semi auto .22lr I doubt you will wear it out in your lifetime & probably couple generations of shooting after that.

BUT, If you want to get a new barrel for your 10/22, & need an excuse = Its probably toast !!! :cheers2:

You just answered your own question.

Yeah.... Why?

If you're still shooting straight and hitting a potato at 25-50 yards, it's fine. Now, if you want to replace it, go right ahead. If you want a lighter barrel, like a composite overwrap or a heavy barrel for better accuracy, that's your choice but you don't "need" one if it's still shooting well...

I have no idea of the round count on my 10-22.Had it 34 years, well cared for.Still looks and shoots great. At least 50,000 rounds, possibly 100,000.

I do not count rounds fired in my 10/22.
But instead count by BRICKS fired.

A couple hundered bricks already since I bought it new
in 86.

It is still as accurate as it ever was.

Were you originally hitting thimbles at 100 yards and now it's so bad you can only hit potatoes? If the accuracy isn't a problem, why change the barrel unless you just want something different? Round count doesn't mean squat if it still works fine.
