I can see that the coyote saw movement, it was spooked moments before the shot was taken. The yote busted him, and thanks for another dejavue moment and vid.

Looks like he rushed the shot... Haven't we all one time or another? :(

Great video, none the less!

I hope you don't mind me posting a short and friendly critique on what I see on the video.

I played it back and I hear a lot of low wispers while in the stand, and then at 1:15 I hear someone open a zipper, and then at 1:18 someone says "here he comes frank", and then the shot isn’t taken until 1:35.
That’s a 17 second laps before the shot is taken, that a long time for a coyote to stay in dodge. I think someone may not have been on the ready.

Thanks for posting what really happens more times than not when we hunt coyotes.

That's awesome. I'm going to have to try this coyote thing now.

Hell, everyone misses. Just makes me want to get back out there and try again.

Great video, thanks for the post. What kind of call were you using? How long was the shot?

12-16-2010, 12:39 AM
Looked like a 360 yard shot? Where was this? Cali? What county? Edit: Looks more like 250 upon second look.

Great hunting. Coyote calling is something I have wanted to do for a long time. Nice videos too.

Nice looking buck at the end!

he looked small to me. seriously, you would take that buck???

12-18-2010, 8:46 PM
oh! and dont put the call so far away next time. try about 30 yards. that will be perfect.

12-18-2010, 9:08 PM
It coulda been worse, It coulda been the buck you were stalking all day.

Also...when you have it away from you you have less chance of being busted by the yotes.
One thing I have learned hunting coyotes....all my expensive, fancy camo is worthless. Coyotes see motion REALLY well. And they rely on their sense of smell heavily. I don't think they see color...or at least like humans do.

^^ This ^^ I set mine up 75~150yds. As long as there is line of sight, the Foxpro remote works fine over 200yds.

Yup, looks like you went a little pre-mature... It happens to the best of us. That was indeed a nice buck.

You suck! lol JK I have dropped my coyote caller, did not have one in the chamber, lost my jacket, you name it has gone wrong!

I think my most embarrasing "Dohhh" mistake this year was spooking a nice buck in North Dakota when I flipped my safety off. I tried to be quiet but man things are loud when its snowing. It was my first time hunting with the Father in law and brother in law.
I got a smaller buck the next day.
