Hey guys, so I've decided to buy a 10/22 for target practice that won't break the bank. I wanted to also mount a scope on it but I can't find any information about what scope rings will fit the factory mount that comes with the rifle. What kind of rings do you guys recommend if I wanted to mount a Leupold VX-I rimfire 2-7x28mm scope on it?

Thanks.

Get some DNZ. I tried them out a couple years ago and now they are all I'll use.

If DNZ makes a mount for the gun I'm working on for myself or a customer, it's what I try to use.

What size? Low or medium?

IIRC, I had to get Medium, as the low was too low, and the scope hit the top. Why not go to Wally World, they sell cheap ones. I put them on mine, and they have held up fine. I actually only purchased them their, because I knew I could return them, but I have been very very happy with the fit and the scope stays put, so i never bothered with nicer ones.

You're looking for rimfire rings, also known as .22 rings. Rimfire dovetail mounts are not as wide as regular ("Weaver" or Picatinny/M1913 mounts).

If you'd like to perhaps fit the scope later to a regular dovetail mount, get a Weaver T-09 (double check the part number) mount...it fits the 10-22 and takes standard rings.

10/22's come drilled & tapped and are supplied from the factory with a section of rail that is a combo Weaver / rimfire dovetail. I don't usually use the rail. I use the factory holes with the DMZ rings instead.

My 10/22 Tactical Target came with the following scope base: Scope Base Weaver 10/22 Blue (http://shopruger.com/Scope-Base-Weaver-10_22-Blue/productinfo/90329/)

I used Leupold PRW Low rings (P/N LEU54144) to mount a Leupold VX-II rimfire scope (P/N LEU58710) on it.

This setup works perfectly for me; perfect high (for me) and about low as you can go and still be able to slip the Scopecoat cover over the scope :)

Larry, that seems like the same exact base that comes with the 10/22. I was looking into those rings but according to MidwayUSA's ring height chart, the low rings are too low for the scope I want to mount. The outside diameter of the objective bell is 35.56 mm but the low PRW rings are 0.23" and according to the chart, I need rings that are at least 0.27" tall. The mediums are 0.35" tall. Would that be too tall?

AeroEngi,

I would think that if the VX-II 3-9x33mm Rimfire EFR fits perfectly on PRW low rings (the objective housing OD is 45.72mm according to Leupold's website), then your VX-I should easily fit. MidwayUSA is usually pretty good about providing accurate mounting information but in this case, I think the 0.23" listing for the PRW lows is incorrect.

This is what Leupold lists on their website for PRW rings (http://www.leupold.com/hunting-and-shooting/products/mounting-systems-and-accessories/mounting-systems/prw-rings/):

PRW Low - 0.75" Matte - 54144
PRW Medium - 0.88" Gloss - 54147
PRW Medium - 0.88" Matte - 54149
PRW High - 1.00" Matte - 54150
PRW 30mm Medium - 0.97" Matte - 54167
PRW 30mm High - 1.09" Matte - 54177

I would try the low rings first (if you decide to go with PRWs)...the funny thing is, I chose these rings simply for the way they look (and Scott at Liberty Optics was fairly certain that they would fit and he was right) :D

Great advice! Thanks so much guys! Larry, you have me sold on the low PRW rings. I'll be ordering them soon. Thanks again.

I went with a Power Custom base

and a set of Millet low rings

I think the ones in the second pic are medium Buris rings.

The last 10/22 I purchased came with a base and rings in the box. If you haven't picked it up yet you might want to check that out before you spend the $$$ on something else. I ended up purchasing base/mount combo and scoped it with a Redfield Revolution 3-9x40. I have 4-5 .22's and this is one of my favorite. It is a GREAT plinking gun.

+1 on the DNZ. I came across them by accident on Midway and ended up getting one because of the positive reviews.

I used the stock base with burris weaver style zee rings(high) and it works perfect. I shoot all the way out to 150 yards and have a measly bushnell banner 4-12x; holds 1" groups without major wind :)

Walmart Leopold rings will work fine. I think I have medium heights.
