Just about everything north of the 126 is Los Padres NF. All the way to Frazier Park. Get a map and go crazy.

National forests are usually open for hunting, national parks are usually not. But each have their own rules. Look up the Los Padres NF website and they should mention hunting. I'd imagine hunting is open but you may have to check about shotgun only rules.

Here's the page for LPNF hunting. It includes game species and ideas where to find them. Also numbers you can use to ask specific questions like firearms restrictions. Good luck and have fun.

Stretch your drive a bit and get up north on Hwy 33 past the Lockwood Valley turnoff. Known as Cuyama Valley. You'll cross SB and SLO County lines. National Forest and BLM land east and west of the road. Take any of several roads left or right into the forest. Quail, dove, squirrel, rabbit, coyote, bobcat, etc. Deer and bear in season. Not much pig. Rifle or shotgun OK, but follow DF&G regs. Expect to hike in from the access roads to see game.
