1) Do concealment laws apply while hunting? i.e. loaded with your vest covering the handgun.

2) Is it legal to hike around with a sidearm and no rifle if you have a hunting license and are in areas legal to hunt?

No, yes.

Can I carry a concealed weapon while hunting?

Yes, if you have a hunting license you can carry a concealed firearm while hunting or going to and from a hunting expedition (12027(g) PC). However, you cannot carry loaded unless you are in compliance with 12031. A hunting license does not give you any special privileges regarded loaded carry: 12031 takes precedence over the CA hunting regulations.

12031 means you cannot carry loaded in an area where it is illegal to discharge a firearm.

That pretty much covers it. Legal to carry concealed while going to or coming from hunting or fishing. Legal to carry concealed and loaded while hunting or fishing only if it is legal to discharge a firearm in the area you are in. Your hunting or fishing license effectively becomes your CCW license, make sure that you have it on you or you will be done for.

Oh, I agree with it being legal to CC unload while going to and from and CCL being legal while in the act as long as there are no other law prohibiting it. Say like you can't go to Lake Merced in SF and UCC or LCC.
