I'm sure spam cans will still be at gun shows and other places.

Not to mention the whole "AB962 doesn't actually ban internet ammo sales" thing;).

7.62x54r is not included in AB962 and as I understand it, the legislature cannot propose new legislation until January. There are a number of retailers that are willing to ship ammo into California with the exception of L.A. and I think San Francisco, because of City laws regulating ammunition. There are also many places in Arizona and Nevada that are reasonable drives where ammo can be purchased. I recently purchased some Milsurp 7.62x54r at J&G Sales in Prescott AZ ($85 for a spam can of 440 magnetic rounds). Others recently bought some non magnetic (Yugo) rounds at Cope's Distributing for about $88 for a spam can of 330 (they are out at the moment).

I don't think you need to worry about not being able to find and buy 7.62x54r. Buy the Mosin and enjoy.

I hear the deluxe model comes with a free set of dentures to use after the recoil flips it back and knocks your teeth out. :D

You can stock up on ammo now and shoot it for a few years before you need to get more. Also you have the option of reloading some great non magnetic and non corrosive ammo yourself. There is a whole bunch of ammo in the country right now. Even when it runs out someday its not like you spent 4k on a rifle that you cant shoot. For 300 bucks you can get a rifle and about 1k rounds :p

Oh yes, it wouldn't hurt to look into a nice recoil pad to go with it. :p

In Soviet Russia, rifle recoils you! :43:

But see I'm concerned that many retailers won't bother digging into the details of the law. They'll simply wash their hands of the California market.

Get the mosin, you won't regret it. While you're at it, pick up a few tins online. Problem solved.

I'm sure CGF will get the word out. Besides, there's always going to be some willing to work around California's stupid laws: the market here's big enough. Look at rebuild kits and AR pistols and the like. IF it all actually goes into effect, it may be hard at first, but people find 'loopholes.'

My opinion as well. Looks like I'll be going to Vegas more often and loading up my truck for group buys with friends.

Negligible muzzle blast and light recoil I imagine.

My solution to this whole AB 962 issue is this:

Learn to reload.

I believe that ammo, generally, will get more difficult to obtain in CA. Both Cabela's and CheaperThanDirt have said "no CA sales of ammo" after 962 takes effect, and I don't blame 'em. It's just not worth the legal risk that some nutcase overzealous prosecutor might try to prosecute employees of the firms and have 'em extradited to CA to stand trial.

Stock up on the surplus tins now, yes. But also learn to reload.

Or read the law. Only applies to handgun calibers

What exactly is a handgun caliber? These nutcases running California can say any round is a handgun caliber.

Go ahead and buy the mosin. The cheapest place for Bulgarian surplus is jgsales.com, and they've said that after feb 2011 they'll still ship rifle ammo to California.

They'll also ship handgun ammo if you have a C&R.

12323. As used in this chapter, the following definitions shall
apply:
(a) "Handgun ammunition" means ammunition principally for use in
pistols, revolvers, and other firearms capable of being concealed
upon the person, as defined in subdivision (a) of Section 12001,
notwithstanding that the ammunition may also be used in some rifles.

But yeah I get flyers from J&G all the time in fact the one in my hand says no more handgun ammo to california after Feb 2011 so should be no problem to keep your mosins well fed

now who is to say that the Idiots.. I mean our Fine Understanding Caring Knowledgeable Head state representatives who care for our safety and well being wont use pistols like the tompson contender to try to ban "rifle ammo" similar to what happened with chinese ammo back in the late 80's early 90's. Plus all of the Draco and AR pistols makes the future look grim:mad:

^^^
That's just it. If they get away with this, they'll move on to the next step. AB962 won't reduce crime. So they'll add rifle ammo. Then they'll ban handgun ammo all together...then rifle ammo. Expect to see primers and powder come under scrutiny soon.
