I got a decent WWII Carbine for $580 with 1k of ammo, matching correct bayonet, spare slide(PI), trigger housing(U) and a round bolt(AI) and a bunch of small parts. I think I overpaid for it, but I think it cleaned up well. I've always wanted one of these and this one is nice except for where the guy put his damn SSN on the side of the receiver.
This is in my curio collection, not for sale or anything.

That's over $400 worth of ammunition. Another $50-$75 for the bayonet and at least another $150 for all the spare parts. You do the math. You stole that carbine.

At that price, I'd sure take it... amateur engraving and all. Nice deal!

Sweet carbine.
My dad used to put his SSN on everything, so I don't think that it's so unusual for who might have owned it. Nowadays, an SSN on anything is a sure fire way to get robbed.

I love your carbine. Can I have it?

What kind of moron would place his SSN in the hands of another person who now has his name and address as well?
"Credit application? Sure I'll fill out a credit application!"
Did he scratch his CDL on the stock and slip a paper with his Mother's maiden name, under the barrel as well?

30-40 years ago no one cared about SSNs. When I first joined the Army we put our full SSNs on everything including the duffle bag. Engraving your SSN on firearms was a big thing for awhile.

Hey there neighbor...very nice rifle and I agree with other posters...you really did get a good deal.

I'll have to buzz up Hwy 41 and stop in for a hand shake and hello.

We took it down to the range and shot a couple hundred of the free rounds through it this afternoon. It ran flawlessly, which impressed me since I've always heard they were sort of iffy on reliability. My wife has claimed it since it's the perfect size for her, so it's all her's now. :D
