View Full Version : Knoxx Stock Failure

I took my Mossberg 590 to the range again today. I've been shooting slugs and 00 buck mostly... all 12 ga. 2 3/4. I've put around 300 rounds thru it with the new Knoxx SpecOps stock. Today the stock failed. The failure was where the receiver slides over the pistol grip portion of the stock. The receiver is floating freely over the stock and it seems like the spring that is inside the pistol grip either disconnected or broke. The side of the stock is broken too...both the metal part and the plastic. I will post pictures tomorrow and contact Knoxx Industries to see if they have had any reports of this and also to replace the stock. For now I'm going to put the ole reliable stock Mossberg stock back on. Yeah it won't be as fun, but it will shoot...which by the way, this failure completely disabled the gun while I was doing double taps. The trigger gets buried in the stock when I tried to fire a shot. And trying to work the slide was difficult because the whole receiver was free-floating. Not a good thing and I'm sure glad it happened at the range instead of in a heated gun battle. I hope this is an isolated incident. But i want to post this just in case. I'll be sure to post the reply from Knoxx. Until then, I recommend that anyone who has this stock on a Mossberg 590 test it well. It is likely that the problem of the stock pressing up against the trigger guard caused this failure.

Have not seen this happen but I did wonder about the overall stregnth of the system.. I don't think I would try to clear a type 2 or 3 with a ground slam method with one of these bolted on..

Here are the pics that i promised:

this one is of the stock pushing up against the trigger guard. The receiver is in the full forward position.

Any product can fail. Call me for a Return Authorization Number and we will send out a new stock immediately. I am glad that the design of the stock allowed it to fail safely and without injury to the shooter. I can't guess why the stock failed until it gets back here but this is an unusual event. 877-465-6699

I broke a mini 14 once, if that is possible, then no weapon is safe from problems. You look to be in good hands with Knoxx, just like Ruger no questions about why, just how to prevent it in the future. Thank you ca cruisin.

Other than a broken firing pin---I haven't heard of another mini-14 breaking. (Well, breaking scopes sure...)

My SpecOps stock should be @ the office tomorrow... Guess I can't work from home tomorrow. (The good and bad of life... :D )

I look forward to throwing a couple dozen slugs down range tomorrow night if all goes well.

I just sent mine back to Ruger, they fixed it and sent it back for free. They are like Dillon no BS just send it and wait for it to come back. My Mini was 15 years old at the time. It is also a 180 series.

Yep, my Ruger Security Six .357 locked up the first time I took it out because of a loose screw. I sent it to them, they fixed it and replaced some stuff I didn't know was wrong, and sent it back.

All I paid for was shipping to them. This was a 33 year old used gun, and the model had been out of production for 20 years.

Ruger's got some of the best customer support in the biz.

ivanimal - When did ruger service your extractor ... if it was 15 years old and they stopped making the 180 in the late 70's I would imagine you have this done before or around 1995.... Anyway, Ruger can't help, the extractors are no longer available. They offered him a trade up to the 580 model for something around $400.

Thanks anyway.

I wish it was just the extractor, the entire reciever had cracked. I was unaware of parts issues, the just fixed it and sent it back.
