View Full Version : For sale forums... idea?

I noticed that the for sale forums have been taken down, apparently as potential liability issues are investigated or resolved.

I very much hope that the for sale forums return, as I think they provide a tremendous service to the California gun community... in particular due to the BS roster of certified handguns which makes it so important to be able to find folks nearby for PPT of "unapproved offlist" handguns, and the BS laws and paperwork which drives up costs of out-of-state shipments' FFL processing and again makes it helpful to be able to find sellers/buyers nearby for PPTs.

In fact, here's one idea. Personally I would be more than happy to click on a check box or something similar which provides for a waiver of any claims of liability/etc toward calguns in order to access the for sale forums. Another idea is that the for sale forums could be made accessible only to registered members, and to be a registered member you would have to click a check box waiver.

Here's hoping that any liability concerns can be resolved and the For Sale forums brought back up!

ACCCCK!!!

The F/S Forums is one of the best things about Calguns. It's a great too great a service to Kali gun buyers/sellers to let it go without a fight. I buy and sell the vast majority of my stuff through these forums and it would be a tragedy if they remain offline.

I agree. I was planning on building a couple of OLL, complete with uppers and put them here for sale. I was going to give the buyer an option of either fixed mag or SRB configuration. :(

First let me say "Thanks Ramon!" (Admin) for the hardwork you put in on a daily basis running Calguns.net. I have truely used it daily to expand my knowledge and interact with other *California* gun owners.

Needless to say the "For Sale" forums are/were a huge part of the experience!

All I can say is that I hope they return just as soon as any pending, or possible issues with liability are resolved. I'm already missing them dearly. :o

One temporary option might be to use one of the other popular sale boards out there. Sturmgewehr.com's sale boards require sellers to put their city and state in the title line, making it easy to spot other locals selling things.-

Gunboards.com also has very active "trader" pages. Honestly, I see zero liability to the website owner in any of these transactions. People are responsible for conducting sales legally. What ever happened to accepting personal responsibility? Bring back the Trader.

Curious about what happened to cause this..... This really sucks as I've scored some good deals off the F/S sections.

Are we sure it wasn't some form of retaliation from the DOJ over the whole OLL thing?

Oh, man. The For Sale Forum here at Calguns is an indespensible tool for Californian gunowners. Other forums might get more traffic, but this forum geared specifically for Californians. We can PPT pieces that'd otherwise be too expensive to buy/sell due to shipping. We can PPT pieces not on The List.

Bring it back if you can, man. :(

I'm curious, is it just that you can not allowed the advertising of guns for sale, or is it that by having a forum you are acting as a mediator and it could be construed that you are in the business of gun selling/trading without a license?

Either way, could someone still be creative and sell legally without getting anyone in trouble? For example, in the accessory forum:

"I have this Springfield Armory 1911 magazine for sale. I'm going to be selling the gun soon and don't have a need for the magazine anymore." etc

Someone PMs him saying "When are you selling the 1911 itself?" and the guy responds with "email me at blank@blank.com for details". It then remains off the site, but it still allows people to find people in their area they may not know.

Just a thought.

Good luck with the site. In the meantime, I think we need to organize and divert all CA sales to another commonly available forum. Maybe the So Cal board on AR15.com or somewhere that all Calguns sales can be quickly diverted to, yet is still an isolated CA forum.

+ 1. Things do feel very strange. Not knowing what's going on adds to the feeling. Maybe the site grew to fast to cover all the bases? Lets not forget the CA DOJ and ATF. Whatever it is things are different.
On a up note I think Ramon does a great job with this site. Good talk and good people in Ca who enjoy shooting for sport and fun.

This is California, where anyone can be sued for just about anything by anybody. If MySpace.com can be hit with a law suit claiming that it's enabling sexual predators, I don't even want to imagine the types of junk lawsuits a gun exchange web site might incur. If circumstances and fortune were against you just one time, it could be costly. I would venture to say that our Administrator is just playing it safe for now.

Seems to me if newpapers can be used as a contact medium for gun sales in this state, the internet should be allowed also.

Another thought would be what happened with the OLL's that were seized.
If I were paranoid, I'd certainly see a connection :p

For the record, the For Sale forum here was responsible for an innapropriate action taken by me.
