Manny, I forgot to say, I sold it's twin last year for $1800 to a friend of Bert's, or it would have gone for $2200! It was like having a tooth drilled without Novocain, but the cherry 1885 HiWall Bert helped me replace it with, was worth it.;)

Congrats! I thought I was lucky when I was given a 6 digit 1894 with the first number being a "1".

Did you get it at auction, private party or from a shop somewhere?

Great catch! I have been looking for a low SN 94 to go with my 4 digit 92. Gotta love the lever guns.

Croweman, "THIS" is the Holy Grail! Not mine, but I gave him 5 more minutes to bid on it or it would have been!

Yep, and amazingly he was the only bidder....and he stole it.
He comes up once a year from Dallas for a work convention in SF. We make a weekend out of it with a day allotted for the Yolo range.
I told him if it didn't come with him next year, he was buying his own ammo, and sleeping in the garage.:D

I usually go out and get drunk then sleep around - compared to that buying a gun never seems so bad. :o

i actually have friend working with cody right now with a few of my serial numbers. he has a two guns on loan there. Speaking of bert i just sent him an email about the double set trigger gun. There is no tang safety?!?! i asked him if this was normal or special order.

Is there a hole there where the pin should be?
It may have been removed to fit the set trigger.

Croweman08
12-01-2010, 7:17 PM
no pins removed, thats just the glare from the camera.

TRAP55

Under the lever, sticking out of the bottom tang?
The lever when squeezed up tight pushes that spring loaded pin up and disconnects the trigger block.

Croweman08
12-02-2010, 7:12 AM
oh yeah, no its not there, i talked to bert and he said that was normal practice to remove that pin. thats why its smoooth on the tang in that part with no missing hole to allow the extra space for the second trigger.

I dont know tons about winchesters. I researched a few oldy goldies that my friend has, but never once have I come across one with two triggers. What is that all about?

TRAP55

bball, there's double set triggers and single set triggers. Pricey item back in the day on custom rifles, and a factory order option from Winchester, Marlin, Sharps, etc.
On a dbl set, you can pull the front trigger as you would on a non set trigger rifle for say......a 4lb pull.
Pull the rear trigger, and it "sets" the front to a hair trigger. Usually on most Dbl sets, there's an adjustment screw between the two triggers to adjust how light you want it. On my Stith built 98 Mauser custom, you can adjust it down to about 2oz.
A single set trigger, like Winchester had available for the 1885 Hiwall and Lowall single shot actions, you "set" the trigger by pushing forward until you heard a click, then it was set as a hair trigger.
