Had a stand and some 1/2" thick steel targets made up for the range. (Tired of having to find boxes etc) I figured no big deal shooting the steel plate with the cheap 149gr spam can rounds.. Apparently I was wrong... @100yrds +/- with the 91/30. The smaller hits are from an M1.

Edit: I'm still working on the grouping. :D

I have some 185gr that have the steel core, I just didn't think the 149gr did. Oh well time to find some harder steel. :o

I have a swinging target ruined in the same way.
My dad thought it would be funny to try his '06 on it. Blew a hole right through that looked like it had been cut with a torch and this was with SP rounds at +/- 100 yards.
After I had fixed it with Oxy/Acy and brazing rod, the bastard wrecked it again with my SKS at about 50 yards. Dumped a whole mag into it. This time it's beyond repair. I think he was pissed at me for out shooting him on clay pigeons. Just plain mean spirited.
If you have a torch you can braze those holes up. Don't feel bad about not knowing they were AP....lead core would still have gone right through!

Ok cuz i'm thinking that the 30-06 round from a Garand would go through, or if not at least create a bigger crater. That is really impressive, makes me more excited about my mosin!

The same thing happened to me at the last zombie shoot, I had my plate at about 200 yds, at first I thought I was missing, until we had the break and I headed out to check it out. The bullets went straight through with out even making a sound.

I've been using a wire feeder, its a lot quicker and easier, but 1.5hrs away.. =/

Re-reading the description it says steel core. :(

One last thing I picked up a bore snake at the Reno gun show; did a couple patches of Windex first and after 2 pulls with the snake my barrel is the shiniest I have ever seen it.

I have some AR500 targets for sale in the commercial goods section that have taken a beating with my Mosin at 60 yards and it barely scratched it.

Nice targets! ...er....strainers?
AR500 steel will not do this.
Try some out. It will last a long time.

I've shown these pics before on another thread. Not 1/2 inch, but the same result. 91/30 and M38. Other less profound hits are sks, 45 and some paint taken off by the 22.

They were made the day before we went to BLM land. I have some others that were so mangled, I just threw them away when I got home, lol. A couple of the holes were copper lined. The quail didn't fair too well either.
I have some Armor plate I haven't tried yet.

Are you using a plasma cutter to make those? Some kind of template?

There's not much of anything in the civilian realm that will penetrate my 1" plate. Here is 7.62x54r --- .308 --- .223 and 7.62x39 giving it the old college try......

When I saw the M1 i thought you had meant the Garand, and was shocked, but hitting it with the carbine makes more sense.

Just an acetalene oxy torch. A guy at work had made some and used one of his as a template.

Heres a 1 inch plate that was shot at just over 200 yds. The holes are from 30.06 AP shot through a Garand, the dents are from other assorted fmj rds

Not mine. As a test a guy burried it in the dirt, pulled it out and dumped a mag with no problems. Not my Cup O Tea but they are a reliable weapon
