Does anyone know who sells the real stuff (Goex, Swiss, etc.)? I need some for a muzzleloader.

I have plenty of Pyrodex which I use for BPCR.

I don't know of anywhere up there. I get Goex at a local range in LA or at reenactments.

After the one supplier in Sonoma county quit carrying it, I found mail order to be the best way to purchase. Works better to buy more than one pound though.

sonoma county...figures. i head there was a guy back behind the target off petaluma hill road that dealt in black powder and ordering thing with a small sur charge. he does receiving for C&R stuff too. i never personally went through him but i heard his prices were reasonable. theres a few stores in petluma some of them are new. i have not been there either but my friend bought a glock 45 there. i was mostly a montana hawk guy. might call the ones in petluma and see what they have. if you stay on the road from two rock and not turn towards the dump, it drops you right down town petluma. ones like liberty armory and theres dans guns and one or two others i think. theres one near the brick building on peteluma Bvld north in a brick hatcher building.

Last I checked, the federal limit is 25 pounds, but I believe california has a 5 pound limit.

My unit orders up to 200 lbs at a time and. makes multiple orders per year. We do get it shipped in 25lb boxes with only one box per address.

I am about an hour north of Sacramento, and all I can find locally is Triple Se7en.

Also, it looks to me like the limit for possession of black powder in CA is one pound (unless one has an explosives permit or pyrotechnics license).

http://law.justia.com/california/codes/2009/hsc/12101-12112.html

Scroll down to 12102.

I am getting back into black power and back when I was reenacting in the 90's I don't remember there being a state limit. Are you sure that it is still legal to order 25 pounds as far as state law is concerned?

I ask because health and safety code section 12001 make it sound like that we are limited to 5 pounds.

Cannoneer. I would venture to guess that you're powder consumption is greater than ours. :D:D:D

That is interesting, as 12001 seems to contradict 12101.5, which allows 5 pounds only with a pyrotechnics license, and 12102, which states 1 pound or less for everyone else.

Additionally, 12102.1 indicates any sales of smokeless or black powder in small quantities requires the seller to obtain the name, address, DOB and ID of the purchaser, along with a statement of intended use.

I know I have never been asked for ID or anything else when buying powder.

Definitely confused here.
