It's a bolt gun, so no.

Its cool and defiantly different, but I thought it was illegal to make your own weapons? Or does that only affect making receivers?

no and no

bplvr - what's the length on that with the stock folded?

How much barrel can you remove with it still being legal length (30"??)

Length legal falls to the federal minumum of 26"

His rifle is about 30-31"

So I can go in my Garage and make my own firearms without getting into trouble. Sorry for getting off topic here.

Pretty much, yes.

A better question would be, "why not?".

As long as the firearm is compliant with local and federal laws, you're not prohibited from manufacturing your own.

Looks pretty cool! Does clamping a bipod or grip pod right onto the barrel like that effect accuracy at all? Ive seen some people use the aftermarket fits-all bipods way at the end of the barrel. Does that screw up the barrel harmonics from shot to shot, or does it change the harmonics in a predictable way every time?

Well I'm wondering is does that bipod setup double as a front grip?
I'm thinking it should 'cause that barrel will get hot!

Barabas
11-12-2010, 10:37 AM
I'll concur, that's just about the ugliest firearm I've ever seen. It's so ugly, yet still functional. I like it for the puke factor. How much does it weigh?

I'll bet the DFG guys would excrete fired clay building blocks during a license check if that was your primary hunting rifle.

It can be returned to its original configuration if i want to sell her ,so she is still a C&R {with accessories}
Yes, ..she shoots. I tested her at the Veterans Day shoot in SD . Next up is the Costa Mesa show for pics and prints, and then the Appleseed shoot in SD on Dec. 13th.

It is actually heavier now by about 1/2 lb. .

eighteenninetytwo
11-17-2010, 4:32 PM
So it's heavier now than when it was in it's original C&R configuration? seems to me the point of mucking about with a rifle is to make it more portable and easy to carry round the place.

CaliforniaLiberal
11-17-2010, 5:13 PM
Wha?

Rep McCarthy of New York proposed federal anti-barrel shroud legislation. When questioned if she knew what a barrel shroud was, she took a guess, "The shoulder thing that goes up?" Perhaps she was thinking of a folding stock.

Evidence of legislating from deep ignorance and fear.

the wood stock didn't :
1] fold 2] have a forward pistol grip 3] have a bi-pod 4 ] fit under a trench coat on a tac sling 5] a place for a laser
6 ] allow one to have a faux AW with a pre-1896 receiver
7 ] look awesome with a 10 round mag
.

I don't get the ugly comments. The OP used good ol American ingenuity. All the changes are reversible. It is unique in that is was built Russian and made American. As far as looks go, it isn't ugly.
Good job OP.

I gotta agree with JT...it's a practical, tactical 54r that most likely totals under $200 (labor not included)...an outstanding job of guerrilla gunsmithing.

I think the barrel is too long and look un-proportional. Chop it....
