I really want to make it to the Feb event at Angeles Range.

Does anyone know if people bring extra rifles? I was hoping that I could bring a good friend, but I only have one rifle :(

WHen you register you need to indicate that you need a loaner rifle

Thanks. Appleseed sounds so awesome. I was unemployed for a bit, so I had been putting off training..even though $70 is already a great bargain IMO.

This is correct, but keep in mind there are also (usually) range fees. We don't have any control over that.

---

Regarding only having classes on weekends, keep in mind virtually all of the instructors (and most of the students) work on weekdays. We're all unpaid volunteers. There are occasionally shoots on Friday / Saturday, but I've only seen this in the midwest. However, if you can get enough people together for a special midweek shoot, I'll bet we could accommodate you.

Are we ever going to have an Appleseed boot camp here in So Cal? I really want to go to one. We have a lot of events and locations but no boot camp. I'd drive anywear in California to attend a boot camp. If I can't find one can somebody please let me in on where I can find a place that teaches new shooters?

Thanks

BlueDog, A new shooter would be best served by attending a weekend Appleseed. A Rifleman Boot Camp is a week long program that would be overload for a new shooter.

I am certain that there will be one or more RBC's in California this year, but they are not on the schedule yet. The schedule is posted here: http://appleseedinfo.org/smf/index.php?board=369.0

There was an RBC in Piru at the Wes Thompson DAR last year. We don't have one scheduled yet this year, but that doesn't mean we won't. Piru is the most likely place for it. Keep watching the schedule!

Thanks for the info guys. I'll definitely go out to a weekend class first, the one in Corona is far enough away that I can get a shooters mat, tech sights for my 10/22 and everything else I need in time.

Piru would be good for me since it's not in northern California, about 75 miles but its mostly freeway driving. What concerns me is the last 2.5 miles where you go on to a dirt road and cross a stream bed. Would I need a 4x4 vehicle to get there or could I make it in my Honda Civic?

Unless the road has recently washed out, you should be able to make it with an ordinary vehicle. Only the last hundred feet up to the Designated Appleseed Range itself gets muddy and hard to climb. Shouldn't be a problem.

I'll be there next weekend. I've got a pickup but it's a cheap one, 2WD. I've never had any difficulty at all.

Notes for the Red Bluff Appleseed March 12-13:

1. This range has a covered shooting line. If it rains we will still have a great time.
2. The road is gravel, you can drive your Honda Accord with no problem.
3. Bring your lunch and snacks. There is no food outlet within a reasonable distance.
4. Camping at the facility is permitted.

Just curious how long do these events go on for a day?

as_rocketman

Plan to show up about 8 AM, we usually finish around 4:30 PM. Need to leave enough time to clean up the range. Sometimes we'll go later depending on daylight, the range, etc.

Ahh okay thanks for the info! I will be making it out to the one in Corona next week on both days!

I have a few questions. First I and my GF would like to attend the one in April at corona, I have been told you cant patch with a .22 or you wont have as much fun? I am just going of what I heard. I hae two 22's with scopes this obviously would be the most affordable way of shooting LOL. But do I need to pull out the big guns? I am all ears, just new and not sure what all I need to do to prepare.

Hope to see you out there. Sign up soon, though -- April 19th (or 16-17, as it is this year) is our biggest weekend, and they're filling up.

You do not need to pull out the big guns -- .22 LR is recommended. You can certainly earn a Rifleman patch and have plenty of fun. About 90% of the line will be .22 on any given weekend. You can also bring centerfire if you want, either as a backup or in case you're happy with your progress on the .22 and want to try something heavier.

Appleseed is "run what you brung," and every skill we'll show you works the same regardless of caliber. The only exception is if we do a Known Distance portion, in that case a longer ranged caliber is advised. But the Corona range is 25-meter only, so that doesn't apply at that location.

I want to take my kids this weekend, but, I only have a scoped 10/22, one of them will have to sit it out, do they have rentals there?

as_rocketman
03-17-2011, 9:50 PM
Not rentals, but the instructors usually have a few loaners. Try to set it up with the instructors ahead of time -- sometimes we get totally slammed with requests.

trying, hoping to get a repl;y back, is the scoped ruger ok? or do I need to have the tech sights already there? are there patches/awards for kids? I want to keep them interested.

Scoped Ruger is just fine.

We don't do a whole lot of awards, but ask the instructors about a fellow named Luther Blanchard. ;)

Online sales are probably closed. Walkon is possible. I do not believe these are sold out.

Pennys Dad, you will want to change the Santa Barbara to April 16 only. A one day event due to range schedule conflict.
