View Full Version : Mosin Madness II

Bplvr and I have been talking about having another Mosin Madness and we want to know who is interested in participating in acquiring some of our collecting discards in the SD area. These rifles will discarded at cost (as usual) on a first-paid, first-served basis. We estimate the price to be at $80 and will come with all the important accessories. From all appearances, these rifles will be of the same quality as the rifles that were had in my original Mosin Madness; basically, Russian refurbs with full bores, mostly matching numbers and great wood stocks.

We need at least 18 interested individuals as this will be a one crate (20 rifle) order. If there is enough interest, we will set up a pre-order and get it going.

Is this going to be M91/30 like last time? It's a great price either way but I would prefer to pick up a M44.

Hey PnS!
Glad to see you aren't totally locked out around here. Did you see your roast in OT?

I would be interested but I'm not within driving distance. Best of luck to you though. Maybe you'll score some more plum bayo's?

Yes, it will be just like last time.

I would love to see a crate of M44s but those days are long gone.

Yep, I saw it. It was a good mix but I must say that I never knew I was such an awkward, shy and sexually repressed *******. Good times!

I am locked out of even seeing 2A/OT/CCW/LEO/GenGun (5 sub-forums, not just the four Kes said it was... lame!) unless I go incognito or through a proxy. Kind of inconvenient but I can still keep my thumb on what is going on and converse with CGF about it should the need arise.

Why are you locked out?

Allegedly, cop bashing.

Probably no laminates and we really can't do custom orders. These rifles will be straight-up round receiver, plain Jane Izzy/Tula rifles.

Most likely.

Just get some non-corrosive ammo or reload.

I have two antique Finns I am taking out in a few days :)

Who is selling crates of Mosin's these days?

Lots of people.

I'm assuming you need a C&R license to get in on the group buy?

Edit: Never mind, I just noticed it's for the San Diego area.

Nope, no C&R required.

Yeah, but for $80 plus shipping there are plenty of better deals out there.

I'd love to get a hex receiver but any pre-1941 will do.

For a non C&R like me, it has to go thru a FFL, correct?

Perhaps. But it will have been fondled and otherwise caressed by me. How many people can claim that about their rifle(s)? ;)

I can't speak for the OP or how he wants to handle it, but I think the way that makes the most sense cost-wise would be FTF cash and carry. You can buy a C&R long gun cash and carry. All you need is a driver's license. So if this happens and if we are both in on it, we can carpool down to San Diego :).

Edit: I sure type slow. . .

I will take a look at them, that is not a bad idea. However, I try to go for more all-parts matching rifles and Century oftentimes doesn't have those.

Got pics?

I've got a whole thread. :)

As far as the group buy goes, how do you get around this looking like you bought the case yourself and sold them all? Do you still have to fill each one out in your C&R book?

SNAP! That is RAD!

I still have to record each one in my book. I don't "get around" anything. I acquire so many at a time so I can select the few that I want to improve my collection and then discard the ones I don't want. As long as it is done irregularly and I am not in it to make money (e.g. buying for 80 and selling for 125) then I am good to go. I discard these rifles at or very close to cost.

Good point. I've read to many different points of view on this and was wondering where you stood on the issue.

Good luck with the GB, I hope you get a couple ex-dragoons and a sniper out of it. :D

I regret to say I will not be able to participate in this even though it is a great deal and I do recommend Mosin Nagants as inexpensive "gateway guns" for people who may be interested in milsurps.

Cheap to own. Cheap to feed. Simple to maintain. Super reliable (I've fired over 5,000 rounds of milsurp ammo thru various Mosins with zero problems other than aching shoulder).

It's just that I've limited space for any more guns and I already own a M91/30. I'd allocate one of the few remaining slots for a M44, however, since I don't have one of those :)

So good luck with the group buy. I don't know the OP but from what I read from the first group buy he did, it was a huge success with many happy new Mosin owners.
