View Full Version : ss190 "AP Ammo" - Legal to buy, legal to own?

I've read some of the AP Handgun ammo threads, but what I'm specifically looking for is the legality of buying/owning ss190 (The 5.7x28mm round deemed as AP). Knowing that the round can be fired from both a handgun (FiveSeveN) and a rifle (PS90), is this a situation where it could be OK to own it, but becomes illegal if chambered in the handgun?

Could you cite your info for 5.7x28mm being deemed AP? I just checked the CA safe handgun list because I want to buy a Five-seveN next year. It's on there. http://certguns.doj.ca.gov/safeguns.asp

I'll be interested to learn the answer to your question and mine.

I'm specifically referring to ss190 - not all 5.7x28mm.

Here is a link to an ATF page showing ss190 as AP, but not the other commercial rounds: http://www.atf.gov/press/releases/2005/01/012005-openletter-tech-fabrique-nationale-pistol.html

I've got a couple live rounds in the original box.

Would have had a whole box worth but I had too much fun shooting it (full auto, suppressed) :)

It's legal to have as long as you don't have the handgun. From what I understand.

Yes, you can purchase SS109 from most dealers who still ship to Cal.

You're thinking of 5.56 M855/SS109. This ammo is not AP ammo.

The OP is about 5.7x28 SS190 from FN for the FiveSeven pistols and P90 rifles. This ammo is definitely black-tip AP ammo.

sb193 is better when suppressed. ;)

i would have to agree that as long as you aren't in possession of the fiveseven pistol, you will most likely be ok.
