Sac Valley Shooting Center:

Saturday, November 13 - Palma match (800, 900, 1000 yards)
Sunday, November 14 - 1000 yard match

The Palma match is unlimited sighters and 15 shots for record at 800 yards, 2 sighters and 15 shots for record at 900 and 1000 yards. Time limit is 17 minutes for each string.

The 1000 yard match is unlimited sighters and 20 shots for record with any caliber/any sights, then unlimited sighters and 20 shots for record with any caliber/iron sights. Time limit is 22 minutes for each string.

Each shooter will be pulling targets and scoring. After each shot, the target will be pulled and marked. All types of equipment (except .50's) are allowed, and will be classed accordingly for awards. Muzzle brakes will be allowed, but those using them will be given much grief. Match fee - $20.

If interested, simply show up at Culbertson Cove (the building/camping area below the 1000 yard line) between 7:00-7:30 am. O'Connell will be doing squadding right there. It is a semi-informal match, with much harmless banter and fun. If you have never shot at long range before, just show up with a 100, 200, or 300 yard zero. There will be plenty of help with comeups from there. We typically have a BBQ immediately after the match. Hamburger or hotdog and chips and drink for $2.

Never shot at this distance. Anyway to use the range to get practice in?

YEP!! Ask questions and you will get plenty of help throughout the day. The ONLY way to learn is to SHOW UP, listen, watch, and SHOOT.

One can practice on Tuesday mornings. We meet at the range shack at 8:00, then proceed to the 1000 yard range for a weekly practice. We are typically done about noon.

I did not specifically call anyone a mall ninja. Did I strike a nerve??? :D

Does this mean I have to remove my tactical lights and front pistol grip from my long range rifle? :D

Can't make this one but I'd love to see what all the fuss is about. Sure looks like a lot of fun and I'd love to try my hand at 1000 yards. Never shot for groups that far.

11-02-2010, 5:51 PM
You will be shooting for score not groups. There are mall ninjas here Vu, why would you be banned for noting that?

Yep. I doubt that they will fire up the generator though, so you will need your own.

I geuss I would have to get there before sac valley closes and would the gate leading to Colbertsons cove be open or do I need to get intouch with the person running the match to get in?

Before dark would be good. The gate may be closed and false locked. It is supposed to be that way when we are there. If not, walk to one of the two houses you can see from the gate, and they can let you in. Just be careful of the crazy lady in the house on the left. She answers the door HEAVILY armed!! Good luck...

Well I geuss it would be safer to just camp on the dirt road outside the range. Thanks for the info.

Jim O'Connell will already be there Friday. Just close the gate at the entrance behind you and drive to Culbertson Cove. They don't lock the gate at CC.

Yeah, but it's boring to watch. Bring something out to shoot. It's not THAT difficult.

If you have not shot lr before once you watch you will wish you brought your rifle. My first match there where 3 of us that drove together one guy said he just wanted to watch. By the end of the match he was kicking himself for not shooting.

Dec. 11 - 300, 500, 600, 800
Dec. 12 - 800, 900, 1000

Then December 12th it is. Can't wait!

Yeah, but it's boring to watch. Bring something out to shoot. It's not THAT difficult.

+100. You will be sooooo much happier if you just "jump right in," I guarantee it. You will also wonder how you got along seemingly 'content' in life for all those years before you actually did it. Promise.:D

I am an old guy now so I just am not willing to lay down in a puddle anymore, but barring that I will be there.

killshot44
11-08-2010, 12:26 PM
No puddles. Nice-graveled, elevated firing lines (bring a mat/roll). You drive your vehicle to each firing line so all your stuff is within each.

These Matches are a lot of fun and you can learn a lot from the great people involved.

If 800+ is too much to start with mark your calendar for Dec 12th when it goes 300, 500 and 600 before moving back to 800.

Anyone else want to shoot their AR in F T/R class with me?

Bye dec 12 I will have my new heavier load for my mini worked out so I hope to give you a run for your money out to 600 killshot. But will be shooting a bolt this sat.

I have yet to meet anyone who has started out as anything other than a rookie. One tends to get teased more as a seasoned shooter who misses a wind change, than as a newby who misses a wind change. Either way, the bullet hole is not in the middle of the target. :(

And the weather should be much better than it was for last weekend's Tactical match with rain and 20+mph wind. Big ups to those who shot in that!

Then I'll just have to try to spank your bolty at 800-1K.......

For those who didnt make it today all I can say is 0 wind

There were VERY nice conditions today, but not zero wind. At the 1000, I used 1/2 minutes of right windage to 3 minutes of left windage, in a 15 shot string. That is enough to move your bullets quite a ways out of the middle. Hopefully Sunday is windy!!
