View Full Version : Is there a sling system out there that doesn't suck?

Who's running a sling setup out there that they're actually happy with on their AR?

My biggest problem with most sling setups is that they attach on the bottom of the rifle. My rifle has an A2 front sight gas block with the sling attachment point at the bottom, like this:

http://web.me.com/sfwdiy/xd/A2block.jpg

The attachment point on the stock is at the toe of the butt, again on the bottom. This is the stock that's currently on my rifle.

http://web.me.com/sfwdiy/xd/caa.jpg

The rifle always wants to roll over upside down whenever slung due to the attachment points being on the bottom of the rifle. This sucks when you let go of it to free up both hands, transition to a sidearm, etc.

Does anyone have one of these?

It seems like it's a good solution to the issue of the total garbage placement of the rear attachment point on most stocks. I also find that when a sling is attached directly to the stock, it gets in the way when shouldering the rifle from a slung position. This endplate seems like it would effectively move the sling far enough away from the stock that this wouldn't happen.

Is there a solution like this that moves the front attachment point from the bottom of the gas block to the side, preferably closer to the receiver?

I'm running a 16" barreled upper with Magpul MOE handguards, no rail.

I run a Blue Force Gear Vickers Padded and love it. The front attachment point is a Daniel Defense rail mounted QD swivel mount on a seven slot rail section on the MOE handguard. I ran this in a three day EAG Tactical class and it was more or less perfect.

they all sling from the bottom and make the gun "rest" upsidedown/on its side... if the sling mounted to the top when you shouldered the rifle you would have sling in your sights/optics.. sling mounts that attach to rails do exist.. magpul does have attachments that allow you to mount a section of rail to their handguards..

PICS PLEASE OF ALL SLING SET UPS!

I have been having the same issue since 1988 with my M16 A2, M16 A4 in 2003 and M4. The millitary dosnt issue a good sling and I have gone threw tons of after market crap, momba slings, cheaper than dirt .com cheapo specials and pricey BlackHawk slings and I still havent found a good one for an AR set up.

I like these, I still need to buy one.

I made my own sling setup. Works well for me.

Specter 3 points are the best in my opinion. I don't see any practicality with one points. 2 points are mainly used for target shooting. I have tried many slings when I was in the Marines and this was my favorite.

When not running a rail system, I run a side mount sling swivel. (top left corner of pic below). This fits around your barrel right under the front sight post (see pic of upper). (standard issue on Colt M4's) RRA sells them as does Stag Arms.

I prefer a side mounted two point adj. sling like vickers or viking tactical.

Most quality (vltor, magpul, etc.) stocks offer a QD sling attachment point. Or there is several other options shown in the pic below. I believe the car stock end plate adapter below allows installation without removing your stock tube. All offered by RRA.

You can also get very creative with para-cord.

That looks just about exactly like the setup I'm going for, except maybe with a Magpul AFG instead of the vertical grip. What kind of endplate is the sling attached to at the rear?

Does Midwest PX sell those rail panels?

I use a BFG Victory sling, with a Tac Strap sling tail with D-ring and snap shackle in the rear, and an ITW MASH hook in the front. On the AR, I use an IKH SLAP in the rear, and an HK type loop in the front.

The Appleseed guys recommend a standard USGI type sling. But check out BFG, VCAS, VTAC, Emdom Gunslinger, Magpul MS2, Gear Sector, and thats all I can think of right now.

If you want a sling that will allow your weapon to knock you in the balls, get a one point.

All others, use a 2 point.

I use a Vickers 2-point sling.

I enjoy my testicles undamaged and pain-free. That would be the reason I don't have a single point sling.

I have the Blueforce Vickers sling myself and it's great, I just need to get it attached to the rifle in a manner that's not totally worthless.

I really like that QD swivel mount linked above, that mounts directly to the handguard instead of having to mount a section of rail. Cool idea.

here is how i do it. it looks a lot cleaner on the c93's, because the sling mounts are on the side, but the idea is the same.. this is the $9 blackhawk sling. works great.

I use a specter 3 point sling and with MI mounts on my rail and end plate. I mount the rail mount as far forward as i can on the left side of my rail. I have used this setup for several years and in several courses. However my rifle tends to hang low and i have since stopped using the end plate mount and just slinging it through the stock which keeps my rifle higher up with the but closer to my shoulder.
