Anyone know one who will do a private party transfer without completely jacking me on the fees?

(I searched, sorry if I did not see an answer to this question already).

define jacking...cause it does cost dealers a good amount of time to fill out the paperwork. and, everytime we do a FFL transfer, it's potentially taking away a sale they could have made to us.

Thanks for responding.

I thought the law defined a set fee that dealers could charge for private party transfers. I also thought the law said FFLs were required to make the transfer - that is they could not refuse just because they were not making money on that particular sale.

If you are in that area what are your rates?

i guess it would help if i actually read the post. yes, for private party transfers there is such a definition, but that doesn't keep a dealer from charging storage fees, or crap like that. why not hit up your local turner's to do the PPT?

So "storage fees, or crap like that" = "jacking"

I had a great garage FFL who just charged what the law permitted but he's not around now. He was a RKBA supporter and I'd gladly spend a bunch of cash with him. I'd like to find another good guy like him.

i've yet to meet a single dealer that charges storage fees, but since that notion floats around, it suggests that it does take place here and there.

now to answer your question...do i know of one dealer who won't jack you on the fees...turner's would be one. there are many, many more.

Right off the top of my head, try contacting one of these guys. I've run OLL transfers through SFV_Dealer and have a handgun transfer pending for when I get back in CONUS. Never met jemaddux or used him to transfer a firearm, but he seems good to go from what I've read here on the board.

Other than these two, I don't know of any other FFL's in the area to recommend. Maybe try your closest Turner's?

BTW, whatever you do, just DON'T go to LA Guns.

Have you tried the FFL search function on GunBroker or AuctionArms?

Have you tried turners? Guess they were mentioned a few other times

I would say turners because your not directly dealing with the person making the money from sales/trades he won't be all snobby during the paperwork.

Its the FFL from out of state that kills me.
