Ok, so my dad bought me a PPSH-41 with 3 71 rd mags at a gun show this last weekend for my B-day, Its in Washington State, what do I need to do to get it here, and what do I need to do to make it legal here?

Nice! You should be good to go with any pre ban hi cap mags you own legally. That being said I have heard that they feed off stick mags more reliably than the drums, something the Russians didn't get quite right when they stole the design from the Finns.

Should be good to go as the overall length is about 34", no need for mag lock, should have the 16" barrel and 922r parts. Which one is it (TNW, AA, or Wiselite)?

AFAIK, a semi-auto PPSH-41 would be featureless, so you don't need to do anything special to make it CA-legal. So, justh ave him box up the rifle and have it sent to your local FFL (check with him first to make sure he will accept the transfer from a non-licensee). YOu'll go to your FFL and DROS it after paying whatever fees he wants to do the transfer. Thats it, you now own it. Regarding the mags, have you father break them down into parts kits and send them directly to you. YOu would then need to figure out how to make them 10-rounders before you assemble them.

so is it Russian made or some elongated American one?

Good dad. Its a featureless rifle like the Suomi M31 so no bullet button required. Get some 10rd mags and you're good to go.

Its Russian from what he's told me and "it looks like it was sitting in a warehouse since it entered Berlin in 45". He hasnt sent me pictures yet, he said its my B-Day gift so I dont even get it until December :(

I am not aware of any Russian semi-auto PPSh-41's, so it is gonna probably be one of these, TNW, AA, or Wiselite, as mentioned above.

he said it looks to be original but in Semi-auto

Original PPsH would be full auto AND with barrel shorter than 16".
so, no, it isn't original......

I am totally confused now - those do look like real pictures....
I get if our people would use AKs - ammo easy to find, reliable and such..... but PPsH? WTF?

How much does one of these parts kits run? I'm hopefully getting my c&r license soon I've gotten charged and am just waiting it out now.... Does having a c&r help with obtaining one of these?

ke6guj

parts kits start around $200 or so. They are demilled MGs, no longer a firearm, so a C&R doesn't help in this case (unless you find a vendor that gives discounts to those with an 03FFL).

Couple ways to do it.

If you want to build it on a complete receiver then you dont need a barrel and can get this kit -
http://www.militarygunsupply.com/shop2/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2&products_id=480

if you want the original parts its this one -

http://www.militarygunsupply.com/shop2/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2&products_id=10

and here is the receiver
http://www.militarygunsupply.com/shop2/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=12&products_id=713

There is machining required not a straight bolt up.

Those pics are of guns captured and reused by the Marines during Phantom Fury in Fallujah Nov of 2004. There were alot of em in Iraq, My Bn Gunner had one sitting in his office at habbaniya in 07-08, couldnt find ammo for it.

And from what I've heard you CANNOT send them home right or is there a way to? When did that change, I heard of guns being sent back during Vietnam and such.

...I asked him about the barrel length he said it was a little more then 10 and a half inches.

I hope that by "a little more" he means 5 and a half inches more than 10 and a half inches. (over 16 inches)

Nothing like admitting to possessing a short barreled rifle in an open forum.

He could be measuring the barrel shroud. The barrel itself extends through the trunnion a good deal

Mssr. Eleganté

You should contact your father ASAP and let him know that a rifle with a barrel less than 16 inches is illegal for him to buy in Washington state and illegal for him to buy or possess under Federal law unless he has gone through the process to get an NFA tax stamp. Hopefully there has just been some miscommunication about the length of the barrel on the rifle that he bought at the gun show and it is really a 16 inch barrel.

Hes a Captain in the Washington State Patrol...I'm calling right now to find out what he was talking about.

Is it a kit or a complete weapon? Also you might want to mention it that parts kits in Washinton State can NOT have any part thats used in a machine gun present, its illegal there.
