On sale on the new ad. I'm surprised how competitively priced they are. They are going to fly off the shelf at this price.

Are they single stack or double stack? Its hard to tell in the ad, the magazine can go both ways, I hope that surplus mag only fits 10 rounds.

Will other gun shops try to price match? The reason why I never bought an AK is because I don't agree with the $799 or $899 price tag for an average $400 dollar rifle. Great job Turners, I hope you make these an always carried item.

What heavy asked, and also if you mod to accept double stack and put a US made mag then you need to be 922 compliant right? If so still may be cheaper to just go with the saiga then mod as needed.

It's very unlikely a single-stack. Most of those have already been converted. I don't even know of any vendors that actually have those "lo-cap" WASR mags anymore. Yeah, besides the 'mag-wobble,' this is a very solid, reliable AK. Cheap, not pretty, made in a Russian satellite nation............very much the closest thing to a 'true classic' AK made anywhere outside Izhmash, IMO. The 'Glock' of military carbines.:D

sweep her off her feet. Massage her, cook, sweet talk her, take her to a nice dinner, take her clothes shopping, etc. Claim an early bday or christmas or anniveraary present. If you bring home a good amount of money every month tell her this 400 purchase is nothing and easy to recoup. Tell her you can wait till next year but the price is just going to go up and you'll end up spending more when you can buy it cheap right now instead.

i had to sell my WASR-10 when I moved down here from WA state. I would love to get another. Up there I walked in on my 18th birtdhay and walked out the same day with it and 2 thirty round mags and two stocks for 299.99. Good ol Bear Arms, Covington WA.

Though WASR is bottom of the barrel AK....its an AK. Shot great, was very accurate, never had a problem. Good buy IMO for 400

I went to Turner's Fountain Valley for my lunch break and couldnt resist myself, so I'm $465 poorer now. Guy at the counter gave me the sale price. Its a single stack, built solid not like those IO Casars from Big 5. Can't wait to get it home in 10 days. Guy said they only have 14 left in their warehouse. (thats for all Turners)

For the people who are selling their used WASRs at the For Sale thread for more than $600 good luck with that. LMAO

Why would a Saiga be a waste? I had both. I'll take the Saiga over the WASR any day of the week even in the stock, sporter configuration.

I'll pick the better built, cheaper Saiga all day long. I hated every single WASR I've owned or touched. I regret selling my Saiga every time I think about it.

Thanks for this Saiga vs WASR comparison. I have a Saiga and it really is a solid rifle. I thought about selling it and buying Turner's AK, but now I know better to keep my Saiga.

I have done my good deed for the day!!! Please do NOT sell your beautiful, solid, Russian made rifle for a WASR.

I understand a lot of folks have functional WASRs, but I've never held one that worked 100% of the time, either my own, or those belonging to friends. My Saiga worked every single time. I still have one Century made product, an AES10B, but put them side by side, and you'll see the difference Esquire. One's a newly manufactured beauty, and the other looks like it was picked off the battlefield. Mine even had rust and pitting on the gas tube, and generally looked like it went to hell and back. I don't baby any of my guns, and you'll see the wear, but I don't want it looking that way on the first day.

If you want a pistol grip and slightly better ergonomics, convert your Saiga. The whole hub-bub over the sporter configuration is overblown IMO. I've shot them back to back and hardly felt any subjective difference (if any at all) in the pull of the trigger. My Saiga's action was buttery smooth out of the box compared to the WASR, and until we get our laws change, I loved the fact that I could release the magazine without fumbling around with some screw driver.

Cherish her Esquire; you made a wise decision.

It's very unlikely a single-stack. Most of those have already been converted. I don't even know of any vendors that actually have those "lo-cap" WASR mags anymore.

All WASRs are imported as single stack because of the import ban on non-sporting rifles/shotguns. Century opens most up and installs US parts to comply with 922r. They do sell single-stack versions, they're just not as common. They're not "leftovers".

has anyone done a conversion here? easy/hard? not worth it?

Works fine most of the time, but the bolt and carrier are different to accommodate the narrow feed lips of the magazine. Can be picky about mags and haven't seen one that will feed from a drum.

Made by Century on Romanian parts.

Maybe i can measure my mag well compare it to a ak flat I have. Maybe i can set the flat on the mag opening trace it and dremmel it off. Idk, if my bro gets one ill look into it some more, maybe a experienced ak builder can shine in.

An AK is an AK. If your think your Saiga is going to outshoot my WASR definitely come on out to SLOSA on the weekends for some friendly shooting. Should be out there Nov. 20th since I will be in NorCal the next couple of weekends hopefully getting a Beretta 92FS or M9.

I have shot both and you are REALLY stretching if you think getting a Saiga will up your accuracy by leaps and bounds over any AK pattern.

The PSL which is often crapped on can get MOA on a good round.

For that matter, how about all the AK pattern owners in and around that area are come on down for some shooting to SLOSA on the 20th?

Tons of targets to make it a very fun challenge.

Good in the sense that there will be no wobble because the wobble is caused by the monkeys at century cutting the single stack and making it a double stack most times they over cut causing all unwanted wobble.

Also since you live in cali there is no need for double stack to achieve 30 round capacity, online.10 rd single.stacks are cheap and plentiful.

Or you can file down the wasr to accept double stack mags which would be much better since you can take your time.and get a perfect snug fit with a double stack.... which imo is much better because if you own an AK you can buy many 30 rd rebuild kits and 2 cases of ammo and you're pretty much set for any SHTF. Jaja.

The cheapest wasr is 379 at aims + shipping then you have to.pay middle man transfer and then pay another transfer fee at your locall ffl... same with a 299 single stack.

So with turners you are supporting a California company and making them money so later they can bring us more cool rifles like this. Turners is getting much better now that tjey allow off list rifles with bullet buttons, all of which came from the hardwork of CGN members.

2) Yes.
3) I like the Solar Tactical one, but regardless, using a bullet to move the AK mag release would likely damage the bullet, as those can be pretty stiff. So I wouldn't use a bullet in any of them.

On sale on the new ad. I'm surprised how competitively priced they are. They are going to fly off the shelf at this price.
Turner's continues to offer the bottom of the firearms barrel; I can understand the concept considering most of their buyers are uninformed about guns...

The single-stack WASR is almost the lowest rung on the AK ladder. That title is held by Inter Ordnance's POS, also a Turner's selection that continues to make newb buyers moist with anticipation.:D

You can do a LOT better than a WASR.

If you do not mind me asking.

Damn I had my heart set on Saiga now this comes along!!! Whats a girl to do?

The girl should go get a Saiga:D. The Saiga is a far better rifle. UNLESS you just gotta have the AK look for some reason and if you do the I guess you go get a VASR but I think you are shortchanging yourself

looks like the current turner's ad has this GP WASR on sale again for $399, for all those who missed it the first time around.

Ya I'm with you Id get the Saiga (already did), but I wouldn't call it a much better rifle than the WASR.
I have both, and putting them side by side they are damn identical except for finish (Saiga's crappy paint and Centuries dark gray park) and caliber. maybe I just got lucky, but my WASR and all of the newer WASR rifles Ive personally laid hands on lately have been nice AK pattern rifles. Honestly cant go wrong with either.

Only reason I said what I did is because i had a Saiga and my buddy had a MAK 90 and a Romanian AK single stack ( Which I don't know if it was called a VASR back then so not sure if they are the same or what. he bought them both back in the early 90s. The 90 was great but had a crappy stock pistol grip. my big hands were never comfortable shooting it. The Romanian was ok but just seemed "loose" everywhere. I went to see the VASR at FV Turners and I remember my Saiga just seemed just tighter overall. The VASR is great if you want a AK look alike for cheap and don't mind single stack mags.

That's funny. I remember last year when those idiots at Gun World were trying to get $700 for one of these. Well, look what happened to them ;)

I figured as much, wasn't so much directed at your comments as making a general statement that WASR rifles have taken a massive step forward in quality with the newer guns. Check out one of the 10/63's. Like I said maybe Ive been lucky but all of the 10/63's Ive played with have been very straight, tight guns. Right up there with my saiga conversion.
Personally, I wouldn't mess around with a single stack gun. It sounds like turners got ahold of a bunch of old ban-era WASR rifles and is trying to unload them.

I just got mine yesterday, I found something very interesting...

With the bolt locked back, whenever I smack the magazine or shake the rifle upwards, the bolt slams shut...is that to be expected from a WASR???

Question: Why do you have to be 21 to buy the Remington 12ga Persuader with a pistol grip? Is it an AOW or something?

Because under federal law it is a firearm rather than a rifle or shotgun, they changed it several years ago.
