I have searched around both this site and the internet and I get conflicting answers, If this is the wrong place, mods pls move.

Is a PSL legal in cali if installed with a BB?, and does it need to go through 922r compliance?

I have found threads that say both to yes, no and everything between, does someone know the answer or can point me to the right place?

Thanks,

What does "PSL" stand for?

I'm sure it's something obvious but just can't think of it.

Its a AK type rifle on steriods, chambered for 7.62x54R. I have found threads that state they are still being imported since they considered sporting arms, but I have not found any concrete answers either way

Its legal if it is built on an Off-List reciever, and has a Mag locking device with a 10 round magazine.

I've seen Romanian PSLs (w/BB) for sale at local (Norcal) gun shows. I'm thinking of getting one myself, although I'd rather have a Dragonuv because of the gas system.

Near the top of every page on this site, just below the ads, there is a link labeled "AW & OLL Guides" run the gun through the AW flowchart, it should answer most or all of your questions. If you have any specific questions after that post them in this thread and I'm sure folks will be happy to answer.

PSL is a nice badass and effective long range gun for much much less than the Dragonuv. Not as effective as the Dragonuv, but about 1/20 the price. Also good luck finding one, they have never been mass imported into the US for retail. I believe it is illegal to do so.

I hope to buy a PSL within a few years.

The PSL or Puşcă Semiautomată cu Lunetă or Romak 3 (ROManian Avtomat Kalashnikov) imported by Century (CAI) as PSL-54c is a Enlarged AK chambered in the 7.62/54R

I have one and I love it, I have mine Zeroed at 280m and I can hit 6 inch swingers all day long with it. All it needs to be California neutered is a AK BB (Yes, Same ones as a AK) The Solar Tactical AK BB is what I have.

I got mine from Atlantic firearms. Any other questions let me know I love mine even tho its a century import. Doesn't have issues like other century guns.

Yes they are legal for us to ship to CA if they have the Bullet button installed on the rifle.

You are good to go with a BB. Just buy as many magazines as possible. I have 10 of them.

My PSL is a shooter and shoots MOA and Sub MOA on a good day. Usually will give 1-2.5 MOA groups for me at 100yrds. 2-4 is what others get which is not bad for its intended purpose. Out to 150yrs it groups 2-4. I can hit all the gongs at SLOSA range easily and REPEATEDLY with my PSL and those gongs are in the 250-400yrd range.

ZX-10R, you're new here. It's a really bad idea to attach your bullet button "tool" to the rifle. Legally, it is now part of the rifle and no longer a tool should you use it to drop your mag.

OP: PSL's are quite legal in the US and CA with the aforementioned AK maglocks and 10 round magazines. As far as magazines go, I don't believe the PSL (or Dragunov) ever came with anything bigger than 10 rounds anyway.

I ordered mine from Henderson Defense last November and Gusslers in Santee (SD County) DROSed it without batting an eye.

I prefer the Solar maglock mainly because it's the most easily reversible AK maglock. When the AWB crumbles and CGF advises, I'll have a de-neutering party for all my EBRs, and the Solar will only require an allen wrench to remove it.

ZX-10R, did you have to drill/tap your fore end to fit the bipod, or does it use the ComBloc sling mount hardware?

Mags for the PSL are very easy to find and as a bonus, are much cheaper than Dragunov mags.

It's a beautiful rifle, but it's kind of hard for me to get too excited about a so-called long-range rifle that won't get under an MOA.

I cant believe there are still alot of people that are PSL ignorant. Guess its a niche thing.
They are legal just like any other rifle. If they weren't Id be a felon.

Its really not a "long range" rifle. +/- 600 meters so just outside of Iron sight range. Its used in the same role as a SDM, IE best shot in the squad gets the PSL and uses it to reach out farther than the average rifleman can at the order of the squad leader.
Ive never understood the sub-MOA thing though, just doesn't seem practical.

Did ZX catch Fate's post?

'Cuz it was important. And correct.

Dude's PSL isn't CA legal.

Whoops.

The pic was, of course, taken outside CA, and he did, of course, remove the tool from his rifle before he re-entered CA.

...right???
