Brass Tumbling today - the last of the 1k LC 308.

Tomorrow it's back to the press to finish sizing them and the tumbler humming away at those already sized.

Finish sorting a batch of cleaned 223 by headstamp. Prep the press for 223 resizing. New RCBS lube die and going to try the case feeder out with the 223 on the LoadMaster. We'll see how it works.

Time to buy another tumbler too - my FA one finally gave out on me so I am back down to one again.

On the last time I took the primer feed apart, I finally realized I had a large primer magazine tube in the primer magazine.

Sized to 2.810 OAL. My RCBS Competition Die Set seater die still will not hold setting which is really f'n annoying now. I have to seat long first then adjust to final OAL. I'm going to have to give RCBS a call.

So pretty it would be a damn shame to fire them.

Just a thought, but are you measuring COL from the base to the bullets ogive? if your measuring from the base to the tip it will give inconsistent readings. Check Sinclair for bullet comparator attachments for your calipers. Just trying to help!

Just got some .308 190 gr. Berger VLD's. So I loaded 40 rounds in 30.06 with IMR 4350 first 9 rounds were work-up rounds 3 @ 52 gr., 3 @ 53.1 gr. and 3 @ 54.2 gr. Cleared up in the afternoon so I set up the chrono and 100 yard target. 52 gr. ~2400 fps, 53.1 gr. ~2510 fps and 54.2 gr. ~ 2630 fps in a 22 inch Remington 700 ADL barrel (this is close to the velocity I'm looking for). These shoot better than the 175 gr. VLD's I loaded and almost as well as the 168 gr. VLD's in my rifle. Loaded the final 31 rounds @ 54.2 gr. to test at 350 yards when I get a chance. Think I'm going to buy a pound of IMR 4831 for some finer tuning also.

Note: If you compare the powder loads to the current Hornady 8th edition, It will look as though I exceeded max loads for 190 gr. bullets. Cross reference that to Hodgdon's published loads using IMR 4350 for the same weight bullet.

Looks nice!

Are all of the cases identically prepped and weight matched?

Do you plan to chrono them or just do a ladder type test?

I'm getting ready to do the same with 69 grain SMK's and some 75 gr HPBT with TAC, as well as some .308 and .30-06 with 147 grain FMJBT's and 3031 (just because I have a bunch of it).

I did not match head stamps or weigh out the components individually. This is only going through a 14.5" 1:9 bushmaster upper and not a precision upper so I didn't care too much to go all out. 90% of the brass is LC 07 however.

All these are with Varget + wolf small rifle 223 primers and I do intend on resting the gun and will chronograph the loads to get my spread and avg velocity.

Tumbling about 100 each of .308, .30-06 and 6.8SPC that I shot through the chronograph yesterday working up some loads.

The .30-06 all functioned perfectly, but both the .308 and 6.8's had a few that wouldn't chamber, so I need to check my sizing and seating dies setups.

Last week: 200x 9mm 124gr pFMJ 5gr Unique (stout loads)
Last month: 200x .38spl 148gr LRN 5gr Unique (these are a little fast, they lead up the barrel bad, won't make those again)

doing today:
100x 6.5 Grendel. using 2520 powder and 100grain a-max's over CCI magnum small rifle primers in new unfired lapua brass.
100x .30-06 150gr BTSP, 49.5gr IMR 4064, CCI LRP
10x .45 rowland-acp (.460rowland cases cut to .890) 200gn TMJ SWC, 13.5gr LongShot, CCI MSPP. these are carbine test loads but are not over pressure by book data. could flatten the hell out of some primers though.

I'm at the tag end of ~750 ct. 40 S&W in W-W brass, 175 gr. cast TC bullet, and 4 powder types/weights (200 each) on a Ponsness-Warren P-200. For those not familiar with the P-W metallic tools, they are a form of turret press (they call them "semi-progressive) that allow for about 200-250 rounds per hour if you apply yourself. I don't. :)

Next up--100 250 Savage, cast bullets (100 grain NEI) atop 12.0 grains of 2400. These will get done on the Rockchucker.

I've got 32lbs of WC844/WC846 surplus powder arriving tomorrow, so I took apart about 100 rounds of .308 loaded with 45gr of TAC to save that for other uses and resized the necks on them. I'll use those primed cases and bullets to work up a load in WC846.
