I had a XD40 and I liked it a lot. But as of late, I'm in the market for another pistol, I wanted to get a xd9 but I'm leaning more and more towards the M&P9.

Get a Glock man! Gosh! lol

Between the 2 you listed, I'd go with the M&P. My bro has an XD and it just doesn't tickle my fanny. I just recently shot and played with the M&P. It's a really awesome handgun. I already have a Glock so my next purchase would be the M&P9. Either that or another Glock. lol

I'd take the M&P over the XD any day of the week

It's personal for everyone, but personally, I'd take the ergos of the m&p over the xd every day and twice on sunday.

I went with an M&P, 7k rounds down. I'd buy another without hesitation.

I haven't shot the M&P but I have the XD and its a dream to shoot for my smaller hands. I would lean towards the XD because of my good experience with it and its cheaper price.

They way I see it, between striker-fire pistols..

Glock is the standard, from there, it just branches off to preferences. Can't go wrong with XD or M&P

hmmmmm seems like almost everyone here is in agreement for the m&p. but again as they say its all about preference.when i go to the gun store today ill check both out i have a glock but i dont like the feel when im shooting it just doesn fit right but the xd felt extremely good on my hands when was shooting. im gonna look at both and see which one fits my hands better.

I own both an xd and an m&p and I'd buy another M&P not so much on the XD

M&P! You can never say it doesn't "feel right". It has interchangeable backstraps!

^^This.

In essence, they are all three (glock, XD, and M&P) the same gun. A few differences in ergonomics, a grip safety here and there, but when it comes down to it, the only difference is preference. I preferred the Glock because I didn't like how the XD or the M&P looked or fit my hands.

If you aren't going to rent both and shoot both, (which is HIGHLY recommended) then just spend some time in the store fondling and dry firing and racking the slides of both and see from there which one you like.

False, it's like saying all cars that are made of steel and have 4 wheels are the same.

Or better yet, are all 1911's equal? NO

In essence, the are all the same TYPE of gun.

All three are great (Glock, XD, and M&P). Between the two you ask, I prefer M&P.

I disagree, one main factor is that the XD is Single Action only where pulling the trigger only releases the striker while the M&P and Glock are 'half cocked' which pulling the trigger pulls the striker back before releasing it. Not to mention the XD has a grip safety, higher bore axis etc... One of them also calls itself an Xtreme Duty pistol while the other two are actually used as such :p

I prefer the XD. I've shot a couple different Glocks and they are ok just not for me. I've owned a couple different S&Ws and hated them all. It really is just personal preference.

My vote goes for M&P. (happy owner)

I have both. I prefer the XD, but it's personal preference.

You're not going to go wrong with picking either over the other. Just delay your purchase long enough to shoot both. Then buy the one that works better for you.

Yeah, listen to Shenaniguns. He know what he's talking about since he's spent years listening other people's limited experience with the XD (and who needs personal experience anyway?).

These "other people's (i.e. Firearm Instructors and other experts who are involved with LEO testing)" experience also have seen 100's of thousands of rounds thru almost every platform out there. I don't have much experience with the Xtreme Duty (What major LEO/Fed contract issues them for duty use?). Unfortunately my experience is mainly with Glock than the 1911, Sig P226, H&K USP and M&P.

Actually that's a mistake, I've only shot them a few times and they shot fine for me and I shot it better than my Sig lol. I should have said that I don't have much experience with them personally.

of the 3 mentioned glock, xd and m&p...whichever feels best in your hands and points well/naturally.

if youre used to shooting 1911 then i would say xd since it shares the same grip angle. glocks have tons of readily available parts on the cheap cheap. you can obtain a lighter crisp trigger pull for just $10-30 with a drop in connector if you fancy that. for the xd and m&p you would have to pay more than $30 :D.

i got an xd cause it felt right and i like it

I absolutely love my XD 9mm 4” Service model.

Not a single problem out of the box, would buy another w/o hesitation.

I've got both. The M&P is definitely more comfortable for me (which is saying a lot because the ergonomics on the XD is terrific). Personally, I like the look of the M&P more (XD looks too much like a Glock). However, the M&P seems to have slightly tighter tolerances (at least in the chamber area). I've had reloads get jammed when the slide pushes it into the chamber (I had to take a rod and pop it out from the other end). Those same rounds chambered fine in the XD.

The XD is cheaper and comes with a holster, though, if that matters to you.

i just bought the xd9 today. the m&p9 did feel good in my hands but so did the xd9. and right now springfield has an offer where they are giving you 3 mags and another mag holster free when you buy an xd or xdm. when i get more money the m&p will be my next buy

Go to the range and shoot one of each. Which ever one you like more buy that one. I personally love my m&p but be prepared to do the apex DEAEK in it asap

XD45 is awesome. I looked at glock and m&p when looking for 45. Ergonomics and features led me to xd45, and I wouldn't accept any less. Flawless so far, fun, accurate.

I fired a XD 45 last weekend...

Rented:
Sig P220
Kimber 1911
Glock 21
Glock 30
XD 45 4"

Out of all of those, the XD45 was my favorite with the Sig P220 in very close second. I have to say, the XD ergonomics really work well for me.

yup the xd and the m&p9 both felt really great but the price difference is what got me. i didnt want to spend and extra 150 for the M&P9 when the XD9 felt almost the same. I am used to shooting 1911's and this XD really hits the spot. i paid 572 out the door for my xd but thats only because I didnt have my HSC and had to test to get one. overall in 9 more days i get to pick up my gun
