View Full Version : How to verify a Handgun is registered to you???

My Grandfather gave me a Glock 23 in 1994. I went to an FFL recently to check on it and the FFL dealer told me that it was OK and that I didn't need to go through him to transfer the handgun since it was between family members. I was raised by my Grandfather. Am I ok? Do I need to fill out any paper work with DOJ?

The reason I am checking on it is because I was overseas (in the Military) and my Grandfather purchased the gun for me and told me it was all taken care of when I got home. I have used it while on duty when I was a LEO, and also had it before I was a Peace Office as my carry gun for my CCW. So the serial number has/was used for my CCW and while on duty (we were allowed to carry or buy our own gun).

Interestingly I found a letter in some old files where he signed and dated giving me the handgun..but I wanted to double check if there was even a form for him to fill out back then for the transfer....and if he actually did it..I'm assuming he did but want to make sure

I want to transfer the handgun to my wife (not joking..but I get it) so that she can use it for her CCW.

Please advise.

http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/forms/pdf/AFSPrivateCitizen.pdf is the form to see if it is registered to you.

but since you want to transfer it to your wife, just give the handgun to her and have her fill out this form, http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/forms/pdf/oplaw.pdf . that will register it in her name. She should have a handgun saftety certificate before you give her the handgun.
