Refinished by Colt with an aftermarket rear sight. It used to be owned by a LAPD officer. His widow is selling it.

The collector's value of it is gone - It still is a hard to find piece - What plans do you have for it? More customizing or simly shoot it?

His widow?

She's probably what, 90 years old and has no ide of the value and you're paying $1K! Offer her $150.00 and tell her she's lucky you're doing her a favor.

just kidding .....

Did they cut into the slide to put the rear sight? IMHO the refinish won't matter as much in another 25+50 years when your kids have it. The machine work might.

$1000 is based on soo many factors.

Are all the parts correct? Period correct slide and frame? Is the frame still colt? Is the slide colt? Are the parts Colt? Is it a mixmaster or Arsenal rebuild? All original? Condition?

Just the refinish itself destroyed the value of the gun. I would research a bit into the gun before dropping a G on it. A Colt U.S. Property marked 1911 isn't always all Colt.

Oops. Dang dupe. I'll just blame it on Kestryll forgetting to put in a comma.. or should I say using a comma instead of an apostrophe. ;)

Then I would look for another shooter without dropping a G like BM is saying -

I plan to shoot the crap out of it.

Steel was different back then. Shooting one of those a lot may wear it out faster than those made mid 20th century and later.

I plan to shoot the crap out of it.

reminder: 1918 steel is not 2010 steel... it be softer...so new springs and std. ball might be a wise part of the plan...

yea, i wouldnt buy a 1918 gun to "shoot the crap out of it". Especially for a thousand bucks.... buy a springfield milspec and shoot the crap out of that.

And Razr, that avatar is awesome. Is it legit, as in, no photoshop?
