I can't decide how to set up my new 7.62x39 AR15. I pick up my lower on 10/9 and trying to decide what to buy for my upper I have.

CQB for sure. My AK is my home defense. I want to make sure the fool that forgets that this is my home is dead.

My DD M4 is for 100-400yrds.

Exposed has a nice little set up for his AR in 7.62x39. Last time we were at the range he was blowing up clays at 100 yards with every pull of the trigger. I'm think he was on a 18 inch barrel, bipod, and eotech with 4x magnifier. Maybe message him to find out.

I'm running this upper with a JD Machine Tech Lower.

x39 should be should as a mid range gun IMO. It depends on your set up, how long you want the barrel, etc.

I prefer the bigger round so when you hit em, they are down and out... especially if they are IN my house.

I set mine up for 200 yards or less. Or, more realistically, 100 yards or less, with shots out to 200 yards if conditions permit. 7.62x39 isn't a long range round in anybody's book. So I decided to keep it set up for what it is good at, and will use a better long range round if I am planning on taking longer shots. Inside that range, however, it makes much bigger holes in things than a .22 projectile. And generally holds up to barriers better as well. If the SHTF, a 7.62x36 AR is always a good choice. Assuming that you have magazines for it...
