Not 308. It won't fit. Somebody post that absurdly long list of what fits in a 556 lower?

I dont know everything that fits into an AR lower, but some of the calibers off the top of my head...

5.56
.223
9mm
40 S&W
.410 shotgun
.458 SOCOM
6.8mm

Im sure there are others... .308 wont work

OP:

If you want to shoot .308, you would need an AR-10 style setup.

See think link.

These builds are sweet, but can get expencive quick.

9mm bbl
Dif bolt, and in some cases dif hammer.
Mag adapter and obviously, dif mags. In many cases a 9mm build is more expensive than a simple 556 build. Of course, depending on the ammo you shoot you could easily end up saving money in the long run with 9mm. A lot easier to find places to shoot with 9mm.

+1000000 that is one excellent writeup!

My goal was to build a pistol AR for use in indoor pistol only ranges.

My 9mm AR story is one of dedication and persistence, I've built two lowers one with a 9-mm mag block and then a second with a CMMG dedicated 9mm lower. I have found the reliability is mostly in the magazines used. I've had a 50% success with various mags in my setup. I started out w/features and bullet button and have now gone to featureless.

You just need to be patient and dedicated to work out the kinks. Yesterday I had it out and it is a blast to shoot, a little more kick than an airsoft :D

koxx.dta,
you'll love shooting a 9mm AR. I especially love the sound of a 9mm carbine. You can build a 9mm off any AR15 lower. I have a CMMG upper and they didn't need a special hammer like RRA does. I think Spike doesn't require a special hammer either. After that you'll need a 9mm buffer, a 9mm magazine block (unless you buy a dedicated 9mm lower like the CMMGs), some 9mm mags and you are ready to rock!! :D
